Butomir Airport from the airport tunnel exit by mtncorg Butomir is Sarajevo's airport. It was the main lifeline the people of Sarajevo had during the long years of the Siege. It is the home for the small Air Bosna and several foreign carriers visit. The airport has been remodelled in recent years. It is SW of the main part of the city, not too far from the high apartment towers of the old Olympic Village. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

By public transport; the roads are ok, but it's still a risk, if going there by your own car or motorbike. Cabs are very cheap, but be sure to know, where you're going and pay attention, which way the driver takes you - they like to make detours to collect miles (at your cost). Othervise the traffic shouldn't be a problem. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Before you can see Sarajevo, you have to find a way to get there, of course. By airplane: airlines that fly to Sarajevo (SJJ) are: Adria Airways (from Ljubljana), Austrian Airlines (from Vienna), Croatia Airlines (from Zagreb), Jat Airways (from Belgrade), Lufthansa (from Munich), Malev (from Budapest), Snowflake/SAS (from Copenhagen) and Turkish (from Istanbul). I’ve flown to Sarajevo with Adria Airways, Austrian Airlines, and Croatia Airlines, and the service was excellent with all three. This information was current in February 2004, but things like this seem to change pretty often. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Airport gates area by mauro_pd Really a nice and small airport, alla amenities available, they accept Euro for payment and the staff is absolutely friendly. Double baggage control, at the main entrance and at gate entrance.

Even if Sarajevo is connected with roads to all major cities in Bosnia the best way is to fly and come to Sarajevo Airport, which is on periphery of the city. From there you can rent-a-car or take a taxi that do not cost much. Theme: Airplane

Like Zagreb & Ljubljana it is tiny but modern. I flew with Croatia Airlines from/to Zagreb. All fine coming in. On the way out most of the usual potential problem areas (check in, security & passport control) were fine. Check in was a little slow due to the stupidity of some passengers in front of me, but not the airline’s fault. Actually, how hard can it be to check in a DH Dash 400 which is only 30% full? Beware the airside café however! 2.5km for a tiny bottle of water. I know a 2.5 litre bottle costs 0.95km in a mini mart in town! Hate rip offs like that!

Sarajevo has a really great tram system that makes a circle around the center. You can board it from the bus or train station and it even runs out to some of the suburbs like Grbvacia. It stops right by the fountain in the old town and in front of other places such as the Holiday Inn and National Museum. A word of warning, however. Make sure that you not only buy the correct ticket, but also validate it once inside the tram. Plain clothes policeman frequently hop on board to check tickets and you could face a hefty fine if yours isn't validated. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Don't touch the breaks by Jasen71 In winter when road conditions can deteriorate rapidly. During winter and spring, black ice and landslides can make road conditions particularly hazardous. Drivers should exercise extreme caution. Road conditions are still poor, but many roads are now being restored. The safety and condition of urban roads is generally okay, but rural road maintenance is seriously lacking. The picture I have taken is of a metal replacement bridge, and ice and metal aren't really a good mix. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

I have taken both the bus and the train from Sarajevo to Zagreb and honestly, neither one is that great. The train took longer and was cold and a little on the worn side, but the bus was kind of cramped. At least it stopped for breaks though. If you want to take the train, it takes 9 hours and the best route leaves at 8:00 am and arrives in Zagreb at 5:00 pm. The website I have listed below is not an official sight, but it does have schedules. Leave a Comment

There are buses to "everywhere" from here, for instance Oslo :-) There are more local lines, too, to other cities in Bosnia and the other Balkan countries. The bus station is situated next to the train station, at the end of tram line 1. You should always go here to check departure times, cause they change often. There are more departures / arrivals in the tourist season. Like Dubrovnik: One daily this time of the year, three during summer. And it is smart to buy your tickets a day in advance. The linked page is i bosnian. Explanations: svaki dan = every day ponedeljak = monday utorak = tuesday srijeda = wednesday cetvrtak = thursday petak = friday subota = saturday nedelja = sunday praznik = holiday ne saobraca = is not traficated The grammatical ending "-om" in this case means "on"; utorkom = on tuesdays Leave a Comment
