If you are a shopping addict like me (I actually bring an empty bad to take home all of my souvenirs in.) I went crazy in the old town and wanted to bring home everything in sight. Most importantly, I wanted a coffee set. I wanted one the last time I was there, but didn’t have the money or the space to bring it back in. What I would caution, however, is that if you do want to buy something in the old town you should definitely shop around. I found five different prices for the copper coffee set I wanted and had I gone with the first offer I would have paid nearly $50 for one. I ended up paying about $25. Don’t be afraid to try to talk them down either. I have learned that when buying something off the street you should always bargain and never accept the first offer.
You can expect to spend anything from $2 or $3 for a small copper teapot or spoon to over $200 for a Turkish rug. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Zlata (gold) shop with Sahat-Kula, Sarajevo, 1986 by karenincalifornia Bascarsija was the place to go if you enjoyed browsing and bartering for local wares. This is a picture of a zlata (gold) shop in Bascarsija, with the Sahat-Kula (Clock Tower) behind it. The Sahat-Kula dates back to the 1600s.
No bargains to be had for gold in Sarajevo. A gram of gold in Sarajevo cost the same as it did in the United States. Needless to say, we did not load up on gold in Sarajevo. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

There are small craft shops all over Bascarsija, I could not possibly write tips about all of them. Thus I have placed 5 pictures here and 8 in a TL. In addition to the crafts shops you find clothes and food stores, too.
Silver. gold and other metal works, filigran, intarzia, knitted and wowen products. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftAddress: Bascarsija

web-pic by travelife A moderm supermarket where you can find all you may need. Take the tram from the old town or take an hour of educational walk from the same along Milijacka. Prices are cheaper than western Europe and credit cards are accepted. Also it would be an opportunity to see the Bosnian metropolites. Sales people shockingly don't speak English enough but you can make your way through. If you are in Sarajevo more than couple of days you may find many of your favorit brands here. Its a newly-built red-colored large building. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by travelife This copper-work also traces the link of Turkish influence. Some shops here are doing business for generations and though the shops are full, there is'n enough sale I guess. So, buy some souvenirs if you wanna help them carrying on this business and preserving this old tradition of business in the old town. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Bezistan by FRONA Bezistan If you have been to Istanbul`s bazaar complex, you`ll recognise the spacious Ottoman architecture of this beautifully restored covered market that was built by Gazi Husrev-beg in 1555. There are a lot of arts and crafts as well as gold and silver stores to be found here. Interesting to know, Gazi Husrev-Beg (1480-1541) was a Bosniak beg in the Ottoman Empire during the first half of the 16th century. He was an effective military strategist, and the greatest donor and builder of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was born in Serres, Greece, to a Bosniak father and a Turkish mother, who was the daughter of the Sultan. Thus, Gazi Husrev-Beg was Sultan Beyazid II's grandson. A brilliant strategist and politician, in 1521 he became the governor of the Ottoman province of Bosnia. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Bezistan (web-pic) by travelife Bezistan or covered market is an Ottoman arrangement and sometimes built underneath a mosque. This also serves as a source of income for the mosque other than voluntary donation. Almost all the mosques built centuries ago have this kind of arrangement. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by travelife Strolling through the old town gives you a taste of colorful oriental products. These carpets which are supposedly imported from Turkey / Iran gives a special feel in this ally. Unless you really wanna spend money or have a direct flight back home, this is not your cup of tea. But taking phots and walking around is free! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Ferhadija by FRONA This is a long street connecting M Tita avenue and bASCARSIJA. You can find a lot of internationa brands here such as ms selfridge, Benneton, gerry weber etc. From TIMES on Line: Ferhadija, the city?s pedestrianised main street, has a huge number of pavement caf?s, where chic young Sarajevans drink coffee and eat ice-cream in the afternoon sun and old men gather around a giant communal chess set in the leafy shade of a public square. The city?s nightlife, centred here, is acquiring a Europe-wide reputation. Leave a Comment Theme: Women's Clothes
