This was the Olympic ski jump hill. There is o more ski jumping, but locals collect herbs and mushrooms around here, in season. The old ski jumping hills are some distance from the old venues on Bjeljasnica. Heavy fighting took place throughout the region, as in in evidence with roadside shrines and cemeteries.
Equipment: You need something to hold the mushrooms and herbs you. Be careful where you tread as mines are still in the area.
Bjelasnica was developed for the Downhill events for the 1984 Winter Olympics. Hotels that were present during the war in the '90's were gutted in the fighting, though on now has been rebulit. The ski slopes are open during the season for skiing and hiking is possible out into the forests of the Bjelasnica. Several traditional villages exist atop the long mountain slopes. You might want to check with Green Visions for information on possible hiking tours they are leading and for information on possible mine locations - always a problem in BiH for the moment.
Sarajevo was the 1984 Winter Olympics city, and has many parks and outdoor arenas in the city where you can walk.
