by easterntrekker Built in 1531, this mosque is especially enchanting when lit at night. It is considered the most important Islamic structures in the country and one of the world's finest examples of Ottoman Architecture. Heavily damaged during the war, it was reconstructed with the help of foreign aid in 1996. Address: Stari Grad

When turks lost the war against Russian in 1878 ,We made a worst treaty in Hagios Stephanos and Lost our lands to Russia. But Ottoman Sultan ABDULHAMID II informed that situation to European Countries and They decided for an Conference in BERLIN in 1878. After this Conference we took some lands from Russia but lost Serbia-Bosnia and Hercegovina and gave adminastrion of Cyprus to UK. So after Turks in Bosnia Austrians came to rule and They started to build european style huge neo classical or Art noveau building. The old and Turkish Sarajevo survived by the Miljacka river but Austrians added new Huge Squares and neigboorhood and building in to city. Around Gazi husrev beg mosque saved as Ottoman but after this area current Marsala Tita street and Mula Mustafa Basekija Streets ends filled with huge buildings. Bascarsija is very heart of Sarajevo, an district in turkish style with small souvenier-shops, imbisses, mosques, old small houses and streets. This is the place to visit in Sarajevo. First take a walk through Bascarsija, all the way to Sebilj - a large place with many pigeons. You will pass by the Begova mosque - the most famous and one of the nicest in Bosnia - example of islamic architecture, you can visit and entry it. After you walk and look in the many souvernier shops then go eat Cevapcici - the most famous bosnian food. Also interessting is Sarajevo during the SFF - Sarajevo Film Festival, already an serious occation in the world of film.

by deeper_blue If you are interested in history you should definitely go the Franz Ferdinand Bridge, scene of the assassination of the Austrian Prince which led to the outbreak of the first world war. There is also a museum but unfortunately it was shut when I visited. Leave a Comment

by easterntrekker The 1984 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XIV Olympic Winter Games, were a winter multi-sport event which was celebrated in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was a proud time for Sarajevo and the first time the Olympics were held in a Socialist Country. Sadly only 12 years later war would leave the site in ruins. We visited the area as part of our city tour and were cautioned to stay on the trail for fear of land mines. Address: Sarajevo
