Please, be aware that the monastery offers neither food nor accommodation.
If you check up some of the Bulgarian tourist sites you might get the impression that accommodation is offered in the monastery. That is simply not true.
I read that it is possible to stay there but when I visited the monastery I talked to one of the monks and he told me that several years ago it was not that much a functioning monastery but more a museum.
Since now it is again more a monastery than a museum they do not offer accommodation at present.
When I visited the monastery several years ago I remember there was something like a kiosk in front of the monastery's wall. Now the kiosk is not operating there is only an empty building there.
So, once again do not count on finding food and accommodation there.

It is supposed to be a warning but it is actually not :)))
You will see this sign on the "Staff only entrance" of the monastery.
When I saw the sign I thought I might see the evil creature behind it. All I faced was the big brown pile of fur you see on the picture snoring on the top of its voice.
I even tried to wake it up to see how bad this dog is but all that happened was that it kept snoring :))))

Rozhen is a nice small village near Melnik. The Rozhen monastery is the main attraction, well preserved and with a beautiful church and garden. It offers some views of the Melnik pyramids....
