  • The water route.

A boat ride from Nessebur to Sunny Beach can be a lot of fun. There are different boats located at the dock in the old part of nessebur. Some are pore upperscale and will offer cocktails and drinks on board. Others are just plain old modified fishing boats. A ride on the more upperscale boats and yachts is about 20 bulgarian levs.
Cocktails cost about the same as they do in the local bars. The fishing boats will charge you about 8-12 levs.

    Sunset over Sunny Beach

If you catch the last ships to/from Sunny Beach you will have the chance to admire the sunset reflecting itself in the waters of the bay. The sunsets are normally over land , but if you go into the water you will have this beautiful view.

    A cruise ship

    Cruise ship is Nessebar

this is what happens when one of those monster ships stops at the port. Its roof shows over the houses when you look at the peninsula from Sunny Beach as all the houses have no more than 3 floors. And the size of the ship is about 1/3 of the territory of Nessebar.
On the pic you can see both ports. The left with the white cross is in Sunny Beach bay, and the right one in the New Nessebar town bay.

    Boat to Sunny Beach

    by bijo69 Written Aug 26, 2006

During the summer months you've got several boat shuttling between Nesebar and Sunny Beach. The return trip will coast you about 10 BGN and takes about 40-45 minutes in every direction.
Should you have problems with seasickness, don't go! The Black Sea can get quite rough.

    Take a walk!

The best way to see Nesebar, especially the old part, is on foot. Take your time, get lost in the streets and don't forget to snap some pics!

Old Nessebar’s linked to the new town via a narrow strip of land, 300m long.

    Getting To Nesebar From Burgas

by johngayton Written Feb 16, 2010
New Town Bus Stop on Han Kroum
    2 more images

There are regular bus services between Burgas and Nesebar, roughly every twenty minutes from about 6 am until 9 pm, from the main Yug (South) Bus Station (next door to the Train Station). The service is run by two companies, the municipal BurgasBus service #11 and the privately-owned MiniBusExpres. Both take about 45 minutes and charge 5 leva each way (Jan 2010).

Personally I've only used the MiniBusExpres service which drops off and picks up from the new town stop on the main Han Kroum road (it continues on from there to Sunny Beach). You board the bus at the bus station (or one of the stops en route) and a ticket seller gets on at the last city stop to collect the fare and similarly on return. This service is every 40 minutes and seems to run quite punctually.

The BurgasBus stops at both the new and old towns and also runs every 40 minutes - the two are complimentary in that they travel 20 minutes apart.

First phone number is for the Burgas Yug Bus Station, second is for MiniBusExpres.

Getting From The New Town To The Old

by johngayton Written Feb 16, 2010
Causeway Linking Old Town To New

Whilst there are local municipal bus services between the old and new towns (running about every 20 minutes) it is pleasant 15 minute, or so, walk from the new town minibus stop to the old town. The new town centre is located behind the town beach and that too is a pleasant stroll, this time about 10 minutes along the seafront.

    Take A Boat Trip!

by johngayton Written Feb 16, 2010
Boats Laid Up For The Winter
    1 more image

Unfortunately these don't operate in the winter but during the season there are a variety of boat trip options from Nesebar and Sunny Beach to other resorts along the Black Sea coast, including to Burgas. Some of the boats are quite basic, whilst others have comfortable seating and bars. It should be noted though that the Black Sea can be a little rough at times and so the boats aren't recommended for those who suffer from sea-sickness.

Most hotels and guesthouses can arrange trips, as can the Tourist Info Centre in the old town.

If You Must Take Your Car

by johngayton Updated Feb 16, 2010
Checkpoint On Road Leading Into Old Town
    1 more image

If intending to drive to Nesebar note that, with the exception of residents and deliveries, motor vehicles are not allowed into the old town. There are well-signposted car parks just before and after the causeway and the fee is (Jan 2010) 2 leva for up to 5 hours or 8 leva per day.

This seems to be seasonal though as I didn't notice anyone manning either the checkpoints or the car parks during my winter visit.

    Little train

    by anna-m Written Jul 27, 2004

Nesebar isn't very big and you can actually go everywhere on foot. However, if you don't feel like it, there are these cute little trains that will take you from one part of town to the other in less than 10 minutes. The ride costs little less than 1 euro.

Ship from Nessebar to Sunny Beach

you can take the small ships straight from the center of Sunny beach or from the two ports of Nessebar. Their owners advertise loudly their services in several languages. So you cannot miss it.
