Sozopol Things to Do

  • Kayak Safaris

These kayak safaris are so relaxing, they are great for all the family and we saw loads of wildlife. The kids loved it and it was a nice change from the beach. My Dad even enjoyed it.The guys that run it are really helpful and fun, and it's a chance to see another side of Bulgaria. It is only about half an hours drive from Sozopol and the safari takes...

  • Museum Southern Fortress Wall and Tower

This newly opened museum is located in a building dating back to the 5th-6th century AD and incorporates the remains of an old fortress wall, its tower and an ancient well. The collection includes pottery, sculptures, paintings, coins etc from times gone as well as some contemporary pieces. In addition the museum as some bottles of boutique wines on...

  • Houses details

The details of the houses remained intact from hundreds of years. Fasteners, the door handles ,postal boxes ,old inscriptions transpose you in the atmosphere of past centuries. Everything around you has its old story !

  • Go to the beach

Of course that in summertime you must go to the beach . The sand is fine ( like in Romanian beach of my home town , Constantza ) and you can stay in the sun or to enjoy the sea ! A walk at the seaside in the autumn it was for us a real pleasure !

  • Sozopol Sfinx

The wind is blowing powerful , huge cliffs down the sea and one of them looks like a Sfinx ! You can easily see the nose , mouth and its eyes . I made only a picture with the sea : funny is that I saw the Sfinx at home , on my picture !

  • The Local Art Gallery

Unfortunately this was shut on the day of my visit but it is a rather splendid, though slightly out-of-character, building on the far end of the Old Town peninsula and looks as if it would be worth a visit!

Sozopol Restaurants

  • Great View and Food

A great view and atmosphere from both inside and outside dining rooms. Prices were higher than mehanas in the countryside but very low for a resort area such as Sozopol. I wish we had been as lucky in Nessebar or Golden Sands. Red Mullet- the whole fish were delicately fried to perfection

  • Original, Creative, Extraordinary...

If you are a foodie, do not miss this place! Really creative dishes, wonderful combinations of flavors, plus beautiful presentation and excellent service. The chef here, Deyan Dimitrov, is gifted. All were good, but probably the gnochi infused with squid ink.

  • Definitely A Local's Restaurant

I had fancied a seafood lunch here in the Old Town overlooking the sea but none of the terraced restaurants seemed to be open on the early May lunchtime that I was here and so I opted for a quick lunch at this busy little restaurant in the square beside the bus stop. Unfortunately I only had about 45 minutes before my bus back to Bourgas and...

Sozopol Nightlife

  • Total nightmare

We've been trying to entertain ourselves in Sozopol since 6 days. It's a total nightmare. There are some venues in the city, most of them located alongside harmani beach. If you want to go to clubs don't come to that city. One of the places ve've visited is Mojito, we were there today @ 11.30pm and it was mostly empty with minor people in the venue....

  • Nighttime in Sozopol is a good time for...

Sozopol is the worst place for nightclubbing I've ever visited. For sure, there are many clubs and bars but these are too loud and completely empty. Two nights in a row (friday and saturday-last weekend of July) we (me and my girlfrend) were making a journey through Sozopol to find a good place to dance/party, walking from one place to the another....

  • Clubing

All have fun and it doesn`t metter where are you from, or how old are you. The party is non stop and you can enjoy it :) No Coat and Tie :)

Sozopol Transportation

  • A Bulgarian Bus Station With Signs!!

I must admit to being rather impressed with the bus station in Bourgas (which is next door to the train station) as it actually has easy to read timetables and well signed bus stops. Regular buses run from Bourgas to Sozopol every half hour with a journey time of about 40 minutes for the 30 km journey and, at the time of writing, cost 3.50 Leva. In...

  • To Sozopol by bus

Sozopol can easily reached by bus from Burgas. During the summer months you can expect to have a service every half an hour from 6am to 9pm. These buses stop at the bus station on ul. Han Krum between the old and the new town. Other buses from here also go to other places on the Southern Black Sea coast.Comfortable private buses connect Sozopol...

  • The pier

There is a small port in Sozopol,s Old Town, it's situated left from the main street, right after the bus-station. The street leading to the pier is lined with many cafes and small restaurants where you can sample local fish. From there you can get a boat-ride to the island of Saint Ivan or around Sozopol. If you want to spend half a day on the...

Sozopol Shopping

  • Russian hats and decorations

All over Sozopol you can buy hats , caps and old decorations from Russia . I think that if you are a collector you surely will find something for your taste .

  • Bulgarian cosmetics

I remember , when I was a child , my father bought from Bulgaria some roses perfumes and soaps . It had a powerful smell and we kept in our room ... only our cat did not like it at all ! In the Bazar you can find a lots of those products ! Natural beauty and natural skincare, bodycare, haircare and cosmetic products specially from roses!

  • Buying Your Fish From The Harbour

I never did see the fishing boats here landing their catches but I assume they go out early and supply mainly the local restaurants but this fish van parked up by the harbour has a good looking selection of fish and crustacea and if you are self-catering would definitely be worth dropping by. FISH!!

Sozopol Local Customs

  • Jam Making

This part of the Black Sea coast has escaped the major industry to be found around the cities of Bourgas and Varna and the only pollutants here in Sozopol's Old Town are the sweet smells from the fish barbeques and the wood fires of the local jam makers. Making jam in the traditional way seems to be one of the main cottage industries here with many...

  • Strange tradition

The majority of the population are Christian, the main denomination being Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Eastern Orthodox Chrisitianity is considered to be the traditional religion in Bulgaria. There is a tradition to hang on the necrologies of died people on the house door just after their death, and then after 15 days, one month, 45 days, and then in...

  • Beach vs. Streats

Most people come to the town because of its charm, not for the beaches attached to it. In fact very few set a foot on the beach, the rest are usually busy curing hangover or trying to remember the name of the person sleeping next to themselves.

Sozopol Warnings and Dangers

  • Rubbish left by tourists

I worry immensely about the amount of rubbish left by tourists who claim to love it also. Something must be done about this problem, especially the amount of plastic bottles left! We should care more about this beautiful place. Otherwise tourists may stop visiting this great place

  • Military Activity

In Sozopol harbour you will find a part of the Bulgarian Black Sea fleet. Plenty of warships was present there during my stay. We were adviced not to take any photos in the harbour area...

Sozopol Tourist Traps

  • Money exchange

  • Trip around Sozopol - be careful!

In the middle of the town I saw a small toy-train with open seats. When I asked what it is the reply was - tour around Sozopol. I decided to try this tour and bought myself a ticket. We went by the seacoast and ended up in the middle of nowhere. All the people got off the train and went to the nearest camp. It turned out all of them came to the...

Sozopol Off The Beaten Path

  • Rozovo/ Turkish Border

it an easy day trip from Sozopol to drive down the coast to the border and back. There are many great beaches and towns. This was the town overlooking the Border. It was very interesting. Several new beach houses and some abandoned. It just made for an interesting place

  • Beautiful Beach

I dont know the name of this beach but it is south of Sozopol on highway E87. We found it on the way to the Turkish border. Even though it was very popular as you can see, it was very natural without all the resorts on top of you.

  • Wooden houses

Old City has many houses the second floor of which is wooden and the ground floor made of stone. There are also houses completely made of wood. The yards look very inviting and many locals have their own cafes and small restaurants right in their yards.

  • Travel Bulgaria - Sozopol

Make sure to visit the old town. Nearby campings all around the city are also popular for young people and backpackers. For a lesser known place to go and relax, there is a rocky area by the sea in the old at The sea is quite deep here and can be a little rough at times so make sure you...

  • Cliffs and Sea

Here is my favourite spot in Sozopol ! I could stay in this place and watch the waves of the sea without boring myself lots of time... The cliffs are huge and the wind is blowing with power . I would like to see this place in winter : it could be a remarkable experience . If you like to take pictures and make videos with seagulls , waves , cliffs...
