Stay away from disco clubs in Nessebar

Wherever "Vigo" or the other clubs in Nesebar, stay away from there. Of course the mafia that runs the resort also likes the area. It's where they are to be found. And believe me, you won't be safe there. So , I stringly reccomend that you stick to Lazur, Eisberg, and the clubs that are located within Sunny Beach's resort.

Pickpockets and Thieft
desert_princess profile photo

4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

desert_princess 1250 reviews

As in many places where there is a concentration of people , there are pickpockets in Sunny Beach. Watch out for gipsy women with kids , they are specially skilled - you won't even notice how it all happened. Do not expect to see a typical gipsy , like the ones begging on the streets . The pickpocket gipsies are well dressed and look more or less like any one around , usually have bleached blond hair, wear gold , have mobiles etc - this is organised crime.
The latest area I saw them operating was the bus Sunny Beach - Nessebar. And they were not 3-4 in number as usual , but over 10!! They stay jammed at the door and steal while you try to get in or out of the bus. They were so effective they robbed 2 persons for 2 stations - the second one did not enjoy it and pulled one of the girls out of the bus and started beating her . As much as I am against violence - this is the only time I agree with such reaction.
Watch out for a group of women - they usually work together by 3 or 4 and have a kid with them.

Same those gipsies are to be found on the central alley of Sunny Beach ,at the crossing of the seside promenade and the street leading form Kuban hotel to the main pier. They run to you offering you sex, and by the time you realize it, your wallet is gone...

Warning!! Sunny Beach SCAMS
svaler profile photo

Warning Sunny Beach Visitors!
DO NOT USE ANY CURRENCY EXCHANGE PLACES EXCEPT A REAL BANK. THE GOVERNMENT OF BULGARIA ALLOWS 20% DEFERENCE IN THE REAL VALUE OF YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU EXCHANGE AND THE CURRENCY EXCHANGE PLACES IN SUNNY BEACH ARE SCAMMERS!!!
IF YOU NEGOTIATE IN ADVANCE THEY WILL NOT KEEP THEIR WORD AND WILL STEAL 20% OF YOUR MONEY IN ANYWAY AND THE LAW PROTECTS THEM. ACTUALLY THE MAFIA THAT HAS CONTROLED BULGARIA AND HAS established THE LAWS AND THEIR CURRENCY EXCHANGE PLASES ALL OVER SUNNY BEACH. FOR THE EXCHANGE OF 200 EURO YOU WILL LOOSE AMOUNT OF NEARLY 40 EURO NO MATTER HOW PRECOUSIES YOU ARE OR WHAT THE CASHIER WOULD SAY. THEY HIDE THE CURRENCY EXCHANGE TABLES BEHIND THE DOORS, and even if you see it THEY WILL TRICK YOU OUT WITH THE NUMBERS. DO NOT ENTER INTO CHANGE BURRO (SOME OF THEM ARE MADE TO LOOK LIKE A BANK EXSTENTIONS, BUT FOR SHURE ARE NOT). USE REAL BANKS, they are LOCATED IN THE CETER OF SUNNY BEACH NEXT TO HOTEL KUBAN. IF YOU GO TO BURGAS THERE should not BE A PROBLEM, BUT USE A BANK ANYWAY.
THE CASHIER (LADY OR MAN) IS A PROFETIONAL CHEATER THAT WORKS ON COMMISION OF WHAT SHE or HE COULD STEAL FROM YOU.
- TAXI IN SUNNY BEACH IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE IN THE WORLD. THEY WILL LIE TO YOU AND YOU WILL PAY AT LEAST 10 EURO PER KM - IF YOU ARE JAMES BOND I WOULD SAY. The SIMPLE REASON IS THAT ICONOMY IN BULGARIA IS BAD and the AUTORITIES are WEAK OR MAFIA organized, AND ALL THESE TAXI DRIVERS ARE WAITING FOR TOURISTS THEY can HIT.
- The bike taxis will tel you for instance 20- 50lv for the trip , but after you arrive he would say, 20-50 per person... so they are scammers as well. Gypsy looking prostitutes are pickpockets. Enjoy your vocation.

Bull riding

Beware of those bull riding gadjets. Some of them do not posess the required landing protection . The guy operating the one behind Lazur disco told us that he doesn't have a safety license approval , that's why he operates it only at night when he cannot be caught.
Avoid especially if you come out of Lazur drunken. He was talking about broken heads , and other horryfying stories - STAY AWAY!!!

Highly dodgy tobacco
Hector80 profile photo

Before we left for Sunny Beach a friend from work asked me to bring him back some rolling tobacco. On our last day I went to one of the mini markets on the front and bought a few large pouches of Golden Virginia. When i entered and asked for the tobacco advertised on a board outside the shop, the woman serving looked at me nervously then picked up her mobile phone and made a call, she told me she would return in a minute and left the shop. At the time I thought they must keep it off the premises in case of a robbery, she returned 2 or 3 minutes later with the tobacco in a plastic bag. As it wasnt for me, I didnt think to check it and it wasnt until I gave it to my friend that the contents were revealed. It was a pungantly smelling, slightly sticky substance. It looked and burned like tobacco but it certainly was not tobacco.

Although these markets are very handy for sun cream and water, do not buy tobacco from them. They advertise fantasic cigarette prices but what you get is not what you ask for.

Fake polices
ANDREAS_FK profile photo

ANDREAS_FK 1 reviews

I was in Sunny Beach last year and it was amazing. The only thing that I didn't like to see was the fake polices. At night avoid dark places because we can find a fake cop that invent some rule to obligue you to pay a illegal fine. Fortunately they don't want problems, if you are addressed by this kind of people don't give him anything and say that you will pay the fine at a police station, they will just let you go. These kind of people are "well known" by the hotels staff. I was addressed by a fake police at night just in form of chaka/victoria hotel and the day after I went to this two hotels to complain (because the beach in from is them responsability and the fake police refered that is illegal to stay on the beach at night) and the receptionist of both hotels say that they can't do nothing. I try to complain this to a real cop and tey simple ignore me. Another warning is about postitution, there are a lot of beautiful girls that try to call boys that are passing alone and promise cheap sex and after take you to the beach they steal your pocket or call a fake police.

BE ON YOUR GUARD ALL THE TIME IN SUNNY BEACH. THEY MAINLY OPERATE ALONG THE PROMENADE. MYSELF AND MY SON WERE FOLLOWED WHEN THEY NOTICED THAT MY HANDBAG WAS HANGING OFF THE PUSHCHAIR. LUCKILY I REALISED WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND WAITED IN A SHOP UNTIL THEY DISAPEARED. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE SAW THE SAME GIRLS AND SAT IN A BAR WATCHING THEM PICKPOCKETING A WOMAN WITH A BAG ON HER SHOULDER. ALSO WATCH OUT FOR THE BEGGARS. I HAD A CHILD CLINGING ONTO MY LEG TO GIVE HIM MONEY, I JUST CARRIED ON WALKING.ALSO YOU MEN OUT THERE, MY FRIEND WENT TO THE SHOP AT NIGHT, 3 PROSTITUTES APPROACHED HIM, GRABBED HIS PRIVATES AND STOLE HIS WALLET WITH 250 LEVS IN. BULGARIA IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THESE THINGS CAN RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY SO QUICKLY

Rip off exchange offices
desert_princess profile photo

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

desert_princess 1250 reviews

Avoid at any price the exchange offices on this pic. They are guarantted to rip you off, and there is nothing you can do about it. Pay attention that the hyper high exchange rate that they have (for example 1,97 for euros at a possible 1,94 in the bank)displayed is for selling foregn currency , not for buying it. As a matter of fact, they never have a rate for buying. We have one of those accross our hotel and I can hear daily the screams of people that have been tricked. Even if you call the police it won't help, so better don't bother - it's a waste of your time, efforts and nerves. Somehow they managed to have a legal way for fraud, so be careful. On the other hand , the "Crown" exchange offices are very good and have a good rate.I can reccomend them.
