The Mother Mary monument is a creation fo the new times. It was shown to the public for the first time on 8 September 2003.
The monument is 32 meters high and is quite ugly in my own opinion :).
The curious thing about it is that the local press claims that the statue will be included in the Guiness Records Book for 2005 under the Religion Section. The reason, the claim, is that the statue is the highest, but they do not specify where - Europe, the world, etc. :)

It is a local pub, therefore cheap :)
The salads are fresh and the meals are warm.
Do not try to order prok. They do not have it. :)
When asked they answe that they do not serve it 90% of the local population is not interested in pork - a lot of muslims live there, and as you may well know, they do not eat pork.
I had a salad, a meal and two glasses of coke for 6 leva whic is about EUR 3.

The restaurant is situated in Kenana. It is an area in the upper part of Haskovo.
It is pleasant to sit outside in the garden in a hot summer evening since its chiller there that it is in the centre of the town.
The food is pretty good but the service sucks. It took them about half an hour to serve the drinks and about anoter hour to serve the meels. Good we were not in a hurry :)
I was there with a friend of mine from Haskovo and he told me that usually they serve quicker.
The restaurant is a part of a 2 star hotel, there is a pool as well.
Favorite Dish: Svinski (Pork) shashlik

It is expensive but, believe me, it is money well spent :)
The food is delicious. Everything I have tried was just marvellous. I was fully enjoying the experience for about 2.5 h :)
The service is very good.
There is a little lake with golden fish and a small bridge over it in the garden - a bit of a Japanese style.
If I go to Haskovo again, I would definitely visit this restaurant again.
Favorite Dish: tandury salad
ribs - Singapore style

Watch out for snakes when hiking in the Rodopi Mountains rocky regions.
I heard this warning at least 5 times from different local people within one week. They say that this year there are more snakes than usual.

Haskovski Mineralni Bani (Haskovo's Mineral Baths) village is located in the south-western skirts of Rodopi mountain, about 20 km away both from Haskovo and Dimitrovgrad.
It is a balneological resort of national importance. The 12 mineral water springs have a temperature of 48.5°C and an output rate of 35 liters per second. The water is excellent for Burgger disease, joint and other bone-structure (spinal) disorders and some gynaecological deceases.
The remains of ancient fortresses and mineral pools from the Roman period in Mineralni Bani municipality are of special interest for tourists.
The resort is a starting point for hiking tours along marked tracks through the Eastern Rodopi Mountains and a perfect place to escape the hectic urban life for a while. I chose this destination because of the second reason :)
On the map you can see where are the hotels located.
If you need Internet, there is a caffe behind the city hall.

From Haskovski Mineralni Bani one can reach the Sharapanite in about an hour’s walk. As you can see from the picture part of the distance is uphill.
If you keep walking uphill you will get to Aida peak. I was told that it takes about anothe hour, hour and a half.
The Sharapani are unique Thracian wineries - enormous grape vessels carved out in plain rock and connected with channels for transporting the fluid (I millennium BC).
You can also find sharapani in the region of Gorno Briastovo region. The sharapani are one above the other in the areas called Garvanitsa, Pojarishteto and Avramov Kamak.

Kenana Park is a beautiful natural park adjacent to the town offering excellent opportunities for recreation and sports.
You can find there Haskovo's tennis club. Iwent there with a member of the club and another friend - visitor.
The visitor had to pay 2.5 leva per hour which is about EUR 1.5.
I am not sure the price is the same for people who are not accompaning members of the club or if there is a surcharge for foreigners.
If you are playing in the summer, better do it in the morning or after 17.30 h because it is too hot otherwise.
Equipment: Bring your own equipment.
