Although the Fortress is a public entity and open for all kinds of people but it is advisable to wear proper and respectable clothing not immoral style of attire, no beach wears if possible while walking within the Fortress. Of course it is not prohibited to wear shorts or sleeveless shirts but if possible respect while entering the churches and wear proper attire. Also advisable to wear comfortable footwear since the roads can be steep inclined and rugged due to cobbled stoned streets which may be stressful for high heels.

The local "Roma" have a rich cultural "tradition" of harrassing any & all passerbys for:

    TSIGARI (cigarettes)

Don't ask, don't give...and most of all, don't believe ANY of their stories (ie: "father dead", "mother in hospital", "children sick/dying", or "hungry"). Most are better-off than the average Bulgarian. Notice their gold-chains, designer clothing, satellite dish, and pot-bellies. The Roma have been unwelcome houseguests in BG for 1000+ years, and visitors to BG cannot presume to rebuke Bulgarians for their ingrained "racism".
