    Goats in Jeleznitsa

    Goats in Jeleznitsa
These goats were walking on the road with their babies. Herds are usually guarded by dogs that are in charge of keeping them together and scaring away strangers.Watch out as some dogs react quite agressively on tourists walking by.
Goat white cheese is so tasty, try it if you get the chance.

    Jeleznitsa village

Jeleznitsa village is situated 20km south of Sofia on the ridges of Plana mountain at 900m above sea level. In the village surroundings were found 10 mineral springs, but most of them are difficult to access and their use is limited. The water from the main spring ,1km away from Jeleznitsa is with a tempreature of 28-32 degrees celsius and can be used by the treatment of deseases in the nerve system, headaches, insomnia, kidneys and uric system. Awell as endocryne system illnesses and light forms of obesity. The terrain here is hardly accessible ,unappropriate for construction, there is no spa center ,the use of the mineral water is limited to internal intake.
Jeleznitsa is accessible till 23h / 11pm from Hladilnika. You can see the smooth ridge of Vitosha Mountain and Cherni Vrah 2290m with some snow spots in june, watching over the village and its inhabitants.

A walk in the flower carpets
Taking a walk in the full of flowers fields is good for your soul. You don't need any special skills, just pick something to drink, eat and a sheet or blanket to sit on and go have a picnic, listen to the birds singing , inhale all the fresh aroma from the flowers and herbs.

As I said , the high debit of the river in June 2005 took away the bridges,so the only way to cross it is to take your shoes off and walk through the river.Brrrrrrrrrrrrr....the water is Icy - good for your blood circulation.

    Thymus Serpyllum

Vitosha is full of fields for cattle breeding that have good herbs if you know how to reckognize them. They give the air the special aroma of all mixed together.
This one for example - Thymus Serpyllum - is used both for its healing purposes and as spice. Italians add it alot to pizzas , but you can drink it in the form of tea when you have a cold an especcialy by sore throat and cough. As a matter of fact it tastes great and smells deliciously. We call it "Mashterka"and in mountain huts it's one of the favorite herbs 4 a tea.

Check out some Wild Flowers that I have not identified yet.

    Wild plum trees

Wild plum fruits are still green and acid in June. They are good to be eaten when they turn yellow or red, depending on the variety. Watch out when you pick them from the tree, the branches have thorns.

    Jeleznitsa River

Jeleznitsa river runs through a forest deep into a narrow valley. The landscape is lovely , but make sure you have good hiking shoes to follow the water path. The rainshowers that dropped in june 2005 in the area made the level of the water raise tremendously and all bridges were taken away. So if you wanna cross it , you need to walk into the cold water.

Herbs book says that the leaves are good in infusion by stomach problems, diahrea and can substitute chinese tea.

    Horse in Jeleznitsa

Horses are a common sight around the villages at the foothills of the mountain. They are still used to pull carts,as the only fuel they need is green grass and water.
