  • Aleksander Nevski Cathedral

    Sofia Things to Do

It was a Friday afternoon, and a group of European Facility Managers made a visit to the Cathedral. I think it was fair to say that most of the delegates were from northern Europe, and were not from the Orthodox rite. However, we did feel suitably impressed and our religious needs were satisfied. The St Alexander Nevski of Sofia is one of the...

  • Happy bar and grill

    Sofia Restaurants

I have a love/hate relationship with the Bulgarian (established Varna 1994) restaurant chain Happy. I love the food, I love the ambience and I love the prices but I hate how easy it is to eat at nowhere else in Bulgaria but Happy - Happy is just too accessible! Here in Sofia there are several outlets with the main one being on the corner of St...

Naroden Park Vitosha

  • What is this?

Naroden Park Vitosha Things to Do

To me it looks like a radar station, or maybe it is a part of the meteorological station? It is situated on Mt. Malak Rezen, on the way to Cerni Vrh. Whatever it is, it's a nice motif for a photo. And maybe somebody can help me with more info?

  • Snow

Naroden Park Vitosha Things to Do

Do you love snow? If yes, you can see some even in mid-July! There is some hardened snow left on northern slopes. We came across a patch on the way down to Aleko. As you can see on the pic, you can walk on snow, dressed in shorts! And I didn't feel cold at all, after all, it was 25'C...

  • Views from Cherny Vruh

Naroden Park Vitosha Things to Do

If you're climbing Cherny Vruh, don't forget your zoom lens. The views are great from all sides of the top, so make sure you go around. On one side, you can see Rila mountain, still covered in snow here and there. On the other side, you can see a big blue lake in the distance. On the side of the pub you can see Sofia down in the valley. Zoom in,...

    Plana Warnings and Dangers

The Road to Jeleznitza is terrilble from what I've seen. The asphalt has been put with no foundations and the rainshowers that dropped recently and the water running from the mountain had dug out huge holes in it.Absolutely innapropriate to drive a car here , unless it's a jeep.

Goats in JeleznitsaThese goats were walking on the road with their babies. Herds are usually guarded by dogs that are in charge of keeping them together and scaring away strangers.Watch out as some dogs react quite agressively on tourists walking by.Goat white cheese is so tasty, try it if you get the chance.

If you travel by car from Sofia, you need to turn right before reaching the Bistritsa centre and then climb up the Vitosha hills in that direction for another 2-3km.
