Stara Zagora

by bijo69

Stara Zagora is a city in Central Bulgaria. It is suppossed to be one of the oldest settlements in Europe, being at least 8000 years old.Nowadays it's a pleasant city with lots of trees and ruins from its Roman past. Certainly a very pleasant place to visit!

Kardzhali

by bijo69

Kardzhali is a medium-sized town in Southern Bulgaria. It is close to the ancient Thracian town of Perperikon, but unfortunately there's no public transportation to the site. The Historical Museum however has a lot of objects which were found there. Apart from that there are a couple of mosques and churches to visit aswell as the large market. Two large reservoirs are also close to Kardzhali and worth a visit.

Banya's mineral waters to soothe your feet

by rgenn

After a long day of hiking in the Pirin Montains near Bansko go to the village of Banya - about 4km. from Bansko. You can go to the very large municipal pool for about 2 leva or to a smaller hotel nearby for 5 leva. The waters are warm and soothing. Bring your own swimsuit and towel. Opposite the municipal pool walk through the rambling and friendly Gypsy neighborhood of Banya.

Sinemorets

by bijo69

Sinomorets is a quiet seaside village on the Southern Black Sea Coast. Unfortunately mass-tourism has already found its way, but so far it is concentrated only on one of the three fine beaches.Sinemorets is surrounded by the Strandzha Nationalpark, where you can go on walking and birdwatching. Nearby Veleka river offers you the possibility see turtles and beautiful waterlillies. The village isn't that easily reached by public transport, there are just two daily buses from Burgas.

Lovech

by bijo69

Lovech is a medium-sized town in Central Bulgaria. It has a nicely renovated old town, Varosha, and the only covered bridge in the Balkans. Another "must see" are the remains of the Hisarya Fortress from the 12th century. The bus trip from Sofia takes about 3 hrs.

Thracian Sacred Places 5 - 4 century B.C. part 2

by bgjulieta

The walk continues, please, stay! :-)On the last picture you can see a slamm arch. There people have burned candles and nowadays they leave money so they return on this place. Above the arch there is a tomb which can't be seen from below. You have to go on same level as bottom of the arch so you see it.

Smolyan

by bijo69

Smolyan is the biggest town in the Rhodopi mountains. The development of Smolyan was pushed by the communists leaders starting back in the 1960ties and the city centre is immense for a town of just 35.000 inhabitants. The Historicam Museums, the Art Gallery and the Planetarium are well worth visiting. Smolyan is good starting point for hikes in the Rhodopi mountains.

Shiroka Luka

by bijo69

Shiroka Luka is a picturesque village in the Rhodopi Mountains, between Smolyan and Devin. It has quite a large collection of 19th century houses and three beautiful bridges. There's an Ethnographical Museum aswell, but it was closed when I visited.
