Standard Bulgarian plug :) by hekate Many former 220V countries have converted or are in the process of converting to the EU standard of 230V. So did Bulgaria. Generally, this difference is inconsequential, as most appliances are built to tolerate current a certain percentage above or below the rated voltage. The plugs have two round pins as shouwn on the picture. The shape of the plug could be circular of rectangular. If this is not what you have you'd better bring an adaptor with you or otherwise you will have to buy one on spot. Leave a Comment

by ger4444 Of course you know what you have to pack for a country such as Bulgaria. You wont have to take more effort than for a trip to any other Western country. Yet found it very helpful that I had a flashlight packed; especially at some rural places where there was after midnight no light available along the roads that lead to my hostal. Another thing: I learned some Bulgarian before I went to Bulgaria, because I like languages; but if you don’t want to do that you better buy a language guide; because you will need it! But try to learn some basics by head for nothing looks as stupid as a tourist asking for directions while looking in his language-guide! Another thing to notice: many toilets in Bulgaria don’t have toiletpaper. Its not that you have to overpack your bag with toiletpaper before you go to Bulgaria, but it could be helpful to have a role of toilet paper (otherwise you have to buy a 12-pack at the supermarked) O yes: don’t forget to take a swiss knive for the bottle-opener facility this thing offers! Guitar: essential part of luggage by ger4444 You don’t have to pack everything! Everything you think you will need, and is something you think you only can buy in advance for your trip, that is, in your own country, is largely also available in Bulgaria for a relatively cheap price. The weather in summer is good, about some 30 degrees in towns, so that you don’t have to pack warm clothes. But as it occasionally suddenly starts to rain in summer for a few hours a foldable raincoat can be helpful to have. In the mountains of course in summer the temperature gets down at night so you better have some warm clothes then. A sleeping bag is only necessary if you are camping. Mountain huts (not worth to mention hotels, private rooms and (youth)-hostels) have always blankets and sheets. Mountainhuts however don’t have towels for you.
Other things that are good to pack are of course an inflatable canoe, for paddling round on the lakes in the mountains, a jungle-knife to cut your way through the unaccessible labyrinth of the nature-parks and a guitar, in case you are out of your money, so that you can earn your dinner and lodging by playing on the streets. (Bulgarians are very generous in giving you some money when you are playing on the streets, either because they appreciate you playing, or because they want you to shut up) Leave a Comment

by mocca It depends when you are coming, in winter make sure you have plenty of warm clothing, in summer it can get hot, extremely hot
Old buildings, fantastic scenery, good wildlife, so all your lenses from super wide to super tele will be handy. Leave a Comment

As I wasn't sure if I would like the Bulgarian cuisine, I brought sachets of soup and hot chocolate with me just in case. This turned out to a good idea as the food at our hotel was awful. My diet for the week consisted of bread, pizza, hot chocolate, soup and vodka! I'm not sure how good or bad the food is elsewhere in Bulgaria - we were on a budget student trip. Leave a Comment

We've had like 30°C and more, so take light clothing with you, swimsuit, sun protection, a light jacket if the evening turns cold. Leave a Comment
