On Shipka Peak there is the "Monument of Freedom" (31.5 m. high), a bone-vault monument of Russian soldiers and Bulgarian volunteers who fell in fierce battles to defend the peak against turkeys army at Russian-Turkey war [1878-1879]. 894 steps lead to the monument. There is a compound of monuments with replicas of the battery positions and the dig-outs; memorial plates, a common grave. The memorial complex was built in 1926-1934. Memorable deeds of bravery and heroism went down into the history of this defense of the Shipka Pass.

The Shipka Memorial is a memorial to those who died for the Liberation of Bulgaria during the figths of Shipka in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. It is on Peak Stoletov in Stara Planina . It was opened in 1934 . The monument is high 31.5 metres . There are almost 900 stairs on your way to the peak . ( Sure it can be almost reached by car.)

Shipka Memorial Church is in Shipka town and it's famous as Shipka Monastery . The church was built in 1982 in Russian style and it's divoted to the Bulgarians and Russians died in the russian - ottomans liberating war in 1877-1878 .

This is one of the have-to-s if you visit Bulgaria. The monument was build at the beginning of 20th century to remind for the heroic battles for Bulgaria's liberation in this region. The story is long and it's better to go there and feel the atmosphere.

Incredible views from the top of the mountain! There's a large monument dedicated to those who gave their lives here in the War for Bulgarian Independence. I liked this Orthodox cross on the mountain top.

Best way to go to Shipka is by Car or by Tour Bus. As you travel to this historical monument you will notice the amazing view of the mountains. The journey across the mountains between Kazanlâk and Gabrovo takes about ninety minutes by bus.

Luggage and bags: If you carry anything into the monument best to carry what you will really need. It will make your venturing in to and up the monument alot easier on you.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Best to climb the monument with some good sneakers or your favorite comfortable walking shoes
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Water is a must. When climbing up the stairs, water will come in handy.
Photo Equipment: Digital Camera or Camcorder are a must when visiting Shipka. Not only is the monument very beautiful & inspirational, the view from the top of the monument is breath taking indeed.
