    The Monument of Philip II

by mirchica Updated Oct 14, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Philip II the Macedon conquested the Trakian City Evmolpia and gave it its name-Philippopolis
(of course we're talking about Plovdiv). By the way Plovdiv has 7 different names in different epochs. The monument is a gift from Thessaloniki Embassy. In the beginning they put it at Djumaya square(where is taken the picture) but now it's removed at the corner of Avksenti Veleshki street and Philip the Macedoia str.

    The Monument of Phillpou Macedonski

There was a scandal in the municipality about the Phillipou. Allthough one of the names of Plovdiv is Phillipoupoli some historians said that this king has never been here.
