Gianny's: Try the swordfish

by ali_mecham

I would definately recommend Gianny's restaurant for excellent value for money. Bulgarian cusine is mostly meat and fish with vegetables and potatoes. The first meal I had there consisted of a stuffed mushroom starter, swordfish in a sauce with vegetables and crunchy potatoes, and a glass of white wine. It came to about six pounds! I loved the chicken coated with sesame seeds and honey, and served with chips- very English I know but it was really nice!If you like like soup, I would recommend trying the different ones available. I had a really nice tomato soup and they serve it with huge chucks of plain or garlic bread for a couple of Levs.

street markets & vendors: not so fresh fruits but still very tasty

by zlatiq

i love the fruit/veggie stands; u can get anything on your way home or anytime u'r need to munch on something; no need to get into the supermarket and wait on lines. it's cheap too...as u seee there is a client but the contractor keeps working on the stand...hehehe...business must go on

on the streets: cheap food

by zlatiq

if you are tight with the money-that is not a big deal in bulgaria; you can fine many street vendors selling food-from the local banica to pizza; it's very cheap! for example this piiza goes 1 lev for a slice.

Local Beer Brand: Kamenitza..."The men know why...."

by desert_princess

Kamenitza..."The men know why...." - This is what the ad says :))Kamenitza is one of the favorite bulgarian beers, the latest product they put on the market is White or Unfiltred beer. I know this variety from Austria - they call it Weizen or Weissbier. And it has an extra special flavor. As for me I love the taste, but bulgarians don't seem to appreciate it.Highly Recommended :)))

Mehana "Chinarite": The Best Bulgarian Food in the Country

Perfectly cooked, imaginative dishes. The best thing to do is to ask one of the waiters for their recommendations (food & drink). "Djolan" - stewed pork shankcomplex flavors, richness of the meat, seasonings

Jackson's: Great hospitality

by ettenaj

A super local restaurant serving local Bulgarian dishes, at local Bulgarian prices! Hot cheese pane for starters............mmmmChicken or pork dishes are both great, side plate of chips and salad, pancakes for dessert, drinks included and you would get change from £5.00 for two people!!!!

food is not one of my strong...

by g_davies

food is not one of my strong points, but the two places we really liked food wise and entertainment wise was the Barbecue Briz which had traditional Bulgarian entertainment & Southern Nights which had a variety show that went on from 9pm till midnight, the party we went with could not fault the food where ever we went and no one had a bad stomach. Kavarma- shopska salad

Restaurants: other food

by ger4444

As the McDonaldisation of the world is still continuing, Bulgaria is also infected by it. All over the country you can find these fastfood bunkers such as Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut. Yet other places, serving the same kind of fast food, such as hamburgers and pizzas, do this for cheaper prices. You can go into a local fast food temple and pick out and compose your own menu of meat, -- as well as donor kebab – french fries and, at least for the healthy part of that menu, some salads. There are also Chinese restaurants in all the bigger towns, where you can have some Chinese chicken with rice and there are Italian restaurants in those places, where you can have everything varying from spageti to pizza. Just look at places with the tricolour green-white- red and try to encipher signs saying spâgeti I macaroni. In stead of going to a restaurant or fast food place you can of course also coock...
