Restaurants: local food

by ger4444

In each town and village you will find authentic restaurants and taverns where you can have traditional Bulgarian food. One of the traditional dishes that may be served in these restaurants is Kavarma, a rather specie Bulgarian delicates including pork, veal, onions, tomatoes, peppers mushrooms and paprika. Other dishes are sarmi, which is stuffed cabbage leaves, plakiya, that is fish and meat stews, kapama, meat rice and sauerkraut served in a pot. These are typical meals that cannot be found in any other country. Other traditional food is of course shopska salad; you have this before you get your main dish; and after your meal you of course order some fine glass of plum brandy or Bulgarian wodka. Bon Apetit!

La Perla: Not to be missed!!

by Gscobie

I am a seriously fussy eater, we were well into our second week of holiday when we eventually decided to venture into La Perla. It was the best meal my partner, 8year old daughter and myself had the whole time we were there& we had been to La Bamba, Khans Tent& the Steak house!!!! La Perla was second to none. The staff were also very good. Inside it is very rustic, the restaurant had actually been built around a couple of trees& you wont get more rustic than that! Oh they also have happy hour a couple of times a day, 2 cocktails for the price of 1! My partner, Michael, had spicy chicken wings, my daughter,Liv, and I had some nachos to start, yum yum yum. Michael had a steak and assured me it was the best one he had all holiday, cooked to perfection. Liv had chicken steak with salad& even mannaged to clear her plate! I had a chicken dish, cant remember what it was called, but it was mini...

Bulgarian Traditional food Here you can find some more about the Bulgarian traditional (and not only) food.RecipesBanitsaKavarmaKebabchet Monastery Style Bean SoupShoppe Style CheeseShopsk SaladStuffed Peppers With Egg and Cheese TaratorWhy, you might ask. After all, there are plenty of countries in the world boasting a varied and delicious cuisine, along with longstanding culinary traditions. The methods used in Bulgarian cooking are not all that different from those used worldwide. Be that as it may - you still should try Bulgarian cuisine, for there are characteristic features which lend a specific taste and flavour to the dishes namely those features which have helped to make it popular far beyond the country's borders.

by dankata

Make friends - it's easy and good.Follow them to their favorite place to go -pub or club or even a street corner kiosk.....: that will be your favorite place to go too. Cause people are the spirit of the site, according with the prophecy.Pay attention to what people say - they really want you to hear them. Be frank and feel free to express yourself - if you disagree with somebody's oppinion, don't worry - it's common and a basis for a strong friendship. I'm vegetarian so I'll reccomend you liquors - cognac "Preslav", mastika ( liquor close in taste to ouzo ) - any brand and also beer - "Zagorka", "Kamenitza" or "Astika".

My favourite restaurant in...

by Igoris

My favourite restaurant in Varna is Godzila. You can taste lots of tasty things there. It's situated in the very center of Varna and there are always a lot of people eating, talking, drinking. If you ever visit Varna you absolutely must go there. You cand find specific bulgarian cuisine and some european food. The atmosphere is really nice. Prices are low, super low. For example a salad(700 gr) cost 1$. Bulgarian beer(bira) cost 40 cents. And everything is so tasty. And what I liked, is that when you get a price, the waitress gives you some bon-bons. That's really nice. Everything is really tasty! But especially I liked Godzilla salad and different pizzas. Especially pizza with eggs. It was great. And there also was meal with potatoes with bacon or with chiken, as you want. And also a tasty salad with grill chiken, cucumbers, peas and sauce.

It's the capital so u can find whatever u want - from modest tastes to the most fussy. U only need a map and ask somebody in a random bar where to go - people are extremely helpful if they can understand u :) Try the 'Ugo' chain, it's relatively cheap and the ffod is awesome! Salads and desserts - try the true Bulgarian cuisine..it's extremely yummy and it's so worth the money!

sukiesue's Restaurant Tip

by sukiesue

Gourmets have long since esteemed the merits of Bulgarian cuisine with the verdict that it is tasty, spicy and varied, appealing to one and all. Indeed, who would not like the abundance of fresh vegetables and fruits, juicy meat, grilled or served with piquant sauces, mouth-watering vegetarian dishes, simmered slowly on low heat, the banitsa ( cheese pie) which simply melts in your mouth, and famous Bulgarian yogurt? The Bulgarian 'culinary' geography abounds in delicious specialties and exotic dishes: Bansko-style kapama (meat and vegetables stewed in an earthenware dish), Rhodope cheverme ( lamb roasted on a spit over an open fire), Thracian katmi ( a special type of pancake) and Dobroudjanska banitsa, Danube fish soup and Sozopol-style mussels. The cosy, typically Bulgarian folk-style restaurants will tempt you with Shopska salad and chilled grape brandy, stuffed vine leaves or...

by FrederikCl

It's hard to provide you with a good restaurant, since I didn't really like bulgarian cooking. They use very little spices so the food is not very tasty and is often very greasy. The main vegetable in the region around Borovets is the 'potato'. So that's the main thing you will find on your plate with every dish. There's not a lot of variety in the food, certainly not as much as we're used to in 'Western' countries.
