by nikolaosp

My favourite restaurant is placed in the center of Plovdiv and it's called 'Pileto' (The Chicken). As you understand it has only dishes with chicken. It is quite cheap for westerners and it has a beautiful interior.Ask anyone near the Central Post Office of Plovdiv for the exact location. General Gurko St. Speciality of the Chef - Good price (~USD3), great taste and sufficient quantity.

Almost every restaurant offers...

by minchanka

Almost every restaurant offers both Bulgarian and European meals. As to methods of preparation, Bulgarians have favoured stewing, roasting, boiling and the earthenware dish. The roasting of food on charcoal embers is also widespread. This method lets the meat save its juices, what makes dishes very succulent and tender. Sometimes the stew or casserole are delivered on the table in a lidded brown crock (gyuvech).

Bulgaria is a country with strong traditions. National Bulgarian cuisine has three very special food items:- white cheese - it is a brined cheese, produced from sheep or cows milk, both used on the table and as an essential part of other meals;- chubritsa - this herb grows well upon Bulgarian soil. It shares certain characteristics with Oregano. The dried leaves are crashed and sprinkled on meals;- yoghurt or 'kiselo mlyako' - can be purchased in many different grades and qualities. The most common commercial brand is 'Danone' (literally meaning is funny 'da'='yes', 'no'='but', 'ne'='no').

by Axel-M

Troughout Bulgaria you will find catering establishments of different categories serving different foods:renowned luxury restaurants, taverns which serve national cuisine, restaurants serving foreign cuisine, fast food outlets, pizzerias, numerous cafés and pastry shops, entertainment spots, etc. Menus are usually printed in both Bulgarian and English. Restaurants stay open from 11a.m. to midnight, but may work round the clock.

by DavidJon

Most of the locals restaurants will have good food. We drank bottled water, as our Bulgarian hosts recommended in the smaller towns. Even in the smallest towns, a local restaurant proved to serve a very good meal. The meat might be a tad tougher, but the flavor and wines were a pleasant surprise. Deserts were excellent! Loved the salads!!! I still can't get over how good the salads were. The abundance of good cheesses', meats and fresh veggies in the salads were a taste treat! The wines were surprisingly good as well.I didn't have one mediocre meal in a week's worth of traveling.

The Bulgarian 'culinary' geography abounds in delicious specialties and exotic dishes: Bansko-style kapama (meat and vegetables stewed in an earthenware dish), Rhodope cheverme ( lamb roasted on a spit over an open fire), Thracian katmi ( a special type of pancake) and Dobroudjanska banitsa, Danube fish soup and Sozopol-style mussels. The cosy, typically Bulgarian folk-style restaurants will tempt you with Shopska salad and chilled grape brandy, stuffed vine leaves or peppers, kavarma the Miller's Way, monastery-style hotchpotch, moussaka and kebab. The smell of oven-fresh bread rolls is mixed with the fragrance of savoury. Thinly sliced loukanka (flat dry sausage) from Smyadovo, pastarma, feta and yellow cheese are temptingly arranged on ceramic plates. The delicate white wines Dimyat, Misket and Riesling are followed by full reds such as Merlot, Cabernet and Gamza. Cups of steaming...

Bulgarian food has remained very traditional. The cheese and bread everywhere is great, and each place makes a different type. Visit Rousse, on The Danube, it is clean and fun, as well as sports very well kept old buildings.

by Nobbe

Sunny Beach have alot of restaurants to offer you good food, and it's not expensive at all. Or what do you say about a starter and main course and a glass of wine for about 6€. Or a large beer (Kamenitza or Zagorka (the local beer)) for 0.5€. La Perla was my favourite restaurant during my stay in Sunny Beach.

The restaurant is styled like a village yard and there is a folk show which starts at 9 pm. I would advise getting there by 8.15pm if you want a good table. It's good value for money. A meal for 4 including drinks and the show cost us £23.00 Mixed grill
