Headland Kaliakra

by mirchica

Kaliakra is a long and narrow headland in the north part of Black Sea Coast, located 12 km east of Kavarna and 60 km northeast of Varna. The coast is steep with vertical cliffs reaching 70 m down to the sea .Kaliakra is a nature preserve, where dolphins, cormorants and pinnipeds can be observed.Probably the most popular legend about the place is the one about 40 Bulgarian girls, who preferred to tie their hair together and jump into the Black Sea instead of the prospect to be captured by the Ottomans. The name of one the of the girls was Kaliakra. An obelisk dedicated to this legend is placed at the entrance to the cape, called The Gate of the 40 Maidens.

Peak Vihren

by mirchica

Pirin mountain is maybe the most beautifull in Bulgaria(or The Rodopi-I'm not sure). Its highest peak Vihren is a popular destination for climbilng although it's not very easy(at least for me). It is 2914m high, and it's the 3-d on the Balkanies after Musala in Rila,Bulgaria and Myticas in Olympus,Greece. In the preserve there are wonderful lakes and nature. There are so many itineraries between the huts and lakes.Baykuchevata mura(white fur),a 1300 years old tree is nearby and attracts the tourists.I'm sorry but I can't describe everything. It should be seen.

Kakrinskoto hanch( or the inn of Kakrina village)

by mirchica

At the end of XIX century in that inn Vasil Levski,a national Bulgarian hero and other paricipants of the Bulgarian Revolution have been hiding from the Turkish. This is the place where he was captured on 27.12.1872 It was interesting to look around the inn(working now as a museum) inside and outside,to see where they have slept, have eaten and have hidden but there was nobody to explain us more about it.

Hi al I recently took the quad bike safari near Burgas in Bulgaria. It was run by Lynn and James a great couple who did everything to make the safari perfect. We were given a safety brief then guided across beautiful landscapes, by James who was very knowledgable aboout the area. The location was beautiful and we had a very enjoyable day out, would recomend it to all ages and abilities.

Albena - pretty posh.

by Durfun

Hi,I have been to Albena. It is very popular with Germans, has bee nfor decades! You'll hear a lot of German being spoken all around you there! You access the beach by walking through some woods (with tarmac). The approach is very lovely. The beach itselof is very clean & well looked after. There are lots of high-rise hotels staggered on each side.Plenty of bars & restaurants are to be found, and there is decking to walk on parallel to the beach & further inland.

Get out!

by acommon1

What to visit? Just drive around and see Old Churches/Mosques (Christian and Muslim). Head to the countryside. Nice winding ride thru the Mountains. See the mountain paths where the Bulgars attempted to hold back 1st the Byzantines then Ottomans. Only to be overwhelmed by both.Move from the mountains to the country's wide valley. Easy drive. Stop along the way to see Gypsies, merchants fruit stands, and farmers harvesting.

Just go back from work, change and take the suitable gear and you are on the slope! :-)here i will add some autumn pictures from yesterday, 07.11.2009 (11.07.2009)

Another hour or so on from Rila further into the mountains is the 'ski town' of Bansko - popular as a town for skiers during the winter it was an area of rather nice summer landscapes and scenery to drive through on my way to Plovdiv.

Seven Rila Lakes

by mirchica

This is the most beautiful area I've seen in Bulgaria till now. The lakes are so amazing. And also the walk around them is really pleasent. The last two lakes are higher than the others and you'll need to be prepared for climbing but it is not so difficult - many people do it. The region is great for camping - we made the camp near Sapareva Banya in the forest:)Here is a web with more info about the lakes:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Rila_Lakes

The Monastery of Rila

Keeper of the Bulgarian soul and spirit during the 500 years of Ottoman Occupation, the Rila Monastery is a marvel in the heart of our highest mointain. The holy Monastery of Saint Ivan Rilski, the guardian of Bulgarians , has a long and turbulent history , just like our small and glorious land. Located 120km from Sofia.See > A guide to the Rila Monastery by Desert Princess
