Sofia to Burgas by Train (forum reply)

by johngayton

Hi! Bourgas is a pretty major city and so the trains run year round. The Bulgarian railways site is www.bdz.bg and there is an english button a the top. The site is really easy to use and has all the info you'll need. BTW on the site it is Burgas (without the o).Timings vary according to the particaular train as do fares. There are 2 express trains daily with a journey time of about 7 and a half hours, the fare is 21.50 BGN one way. The fast trains, of which there are 5 daily, don't take that much longer and cost from 17.20. Most trains are direct but a couple of them require changes at Karnobat.Hope this helps and if you need any further info please feel free to get in touch.

Finding the aquapark in Sunny Beach

by opala

Hello there!First - there is only one real aquapark in sunny beach and everybody knows it, it's situated in the end of the resort. The bus that you'll take from Obzor to Sunny Beach will stop in the center of the resort - at the bus station, unless you kindly :) ask the drver to stop at the aquapark which you'll drive by when you enter Sunny Beach. the other option is when you get to the bus station of sunny beach, to take another bus to the park - they pass at every 5-10 minutes. Please, don't take a taxi! They will charge you a lot for something small - about 1-2 bus stops distance taken with taxi will cost you more than your ticket from Obzor to Sunny Beach by bus! Hope to have helped! :) Wish you a nice stay in Bulgaria!

arriving in Sofia

by ger4444

Arriving at the airpot and taking a cab into town. There is a counter in the airport where you can make a reservation for a taxi of a reliable company. This is only necessary is you mistrust taxi's that are already waiting for you in front of the entrance of the airport. Normally people get a taxi over there into town. Ask in advance what it is going to cost you or make sure the meter is working. If you prefer to book a taxi in advance: see: http://bgtaxi.com/

Travelling on our coastline

by bgjulieta

The best way to travel from Rezovo, which is bordering Turkey to the Romanian border, best way is to get a car. Maybe you could do it by a boat in the sea but most preferably is a car because we have harbours only in main villages. That's why better travel by car and you can experience much more! ;-)Here I'll add pics from our coastline but in a mixed order. ;-)

bus not taxi

by angieuk

The bus service around sunny beach is very cheap. from one end of the beach to the other or even in to nesseburr is about 1leve. where a taxi could possible cost about 20leve. there is a little train that goes around as well and think this is about 2-3 leve. but you'll have to get 2 trains to take you all the way round.you can hire a scooter for the day or some on the beach you can hire for the hour or half hour. but the day is better so you can get around and see more of the sights.

Local transfers in Bulgaria.

by DTDR

Just one very simple tip. If you are supposed to get a car or transfer in Bulgaria be sure you request a modern car by known brand. There're still hundreds of thousands very old Russian-made cars in Bulgaria. Those are being repaired and restored many times and generally not safe.As well, this spends your time because of those are barely moving on a maximal speed of 60-70km/h.FYI, some Russian cars and their history:1. Lada (A.K.A "zhiguli") - a lot of models based on very old Italian Fiat. Production starts from about 60s (!) and continues till about 80s. Main part of Ladas in Bulgaria is at least 30 years old. 2. Moskvitch and Izh - about the same years of production but it's originally Russian car. There're not too much remains in Bulgaria. Beware of them! Those are even worse than Lada and very unsafe.3. Volga - Also Russian car in higher level than Lada and Moskvitch, about the same...

Travel between Makedonia and Bulgaria by road

by socheid

Greetings all,If you are travelling by road on the main route between Skopje and Sofia at the border crossing there are toilets on both sides of the frontier. Of course it is completely up to you. However I give you my strongest encouragement based on March '07 not to use the toilets on the Bulgaria side. I am sure I do not need to tell you more.Just in case it's not clear, it is with my strongest encouragement that I am offering you this piece of advice. Not a pleasant memory.Keep well,Stevie

Bulgaria by train

by bijo69

Train travel in Bulgaria is still quite inexpensive by Westeuropean standards. But in most cases train are also quite old and quite slow. Still it's a great way to travel if you want to meet locals. Some prices:Sofia-Plovdiv: 6,70 BGN (2nd class)Sofia-Varna: 22,70 BGN (2nd class)Sofia-V. Turnovo: 16.60 BGN (2nd class)Of course these prices vary according to the kind of train you take. Try to avoid the slow and cheaper trains (putnicheski) which stop everywhere and it will take you ages to reach your destination.
