The Old Hause: Spit-roasted Lamb - Delish!!
Normally when I get within a whiff of the sea my brain automatically goes into seafood mode. Here in Golden Sands I instead caught a whiff of the lamb roasting slowly on the spit here at The Old Hause and my gastric juices immediately overwhelmed my normal piscean predisposition.
The restaurant itself is a little bit kitschy with its red and white woven tablecloths and its faux-vieux wooden and whitewashed stone exterior. There was nothing artificial about the wood-fired spit though with its succulent-looking lambs and chickens being attentively basted over the open flames. This wasn't so much a case of deciding to eat here but rather a case of my nose ruling where my feet were going, with the full support of my now rumbling stomach - in fact my brain didn't even get any say whatsoever in the matter.
My brain certainly wasn't dissapointed. This is a good restaurant with excellent service (at least on a quietish night pre-season) in a spacious, well-laid out and beautifully presented dining room which lends itself to both party nights out as well as more intimate dinners. The menu, featuring obviously the spit roasts, offers most of the common Bulgarian delights such as grilled meats and kebabs as well as an extensive range of salads (I do believe I noticed pizza as well!!) The 7-piece band playing a mix of traditional and not-so-traditional music added to the overall ambience.

Another small but impressive aside was the selection of condiments on the table which, in addition to the standard set of salt, pepper, oil and vinegar also had a bowl each of celery salt and dried chillies which were just the job to perk-up the already tasty green salad.
Favorite Dish: Forget all the clever stuff that the clever chefs do with their "art-on-plate" presentations, this is food as it should be. The lamb was simply cooked to an almost melt in the mouth perfection, subtly seasoned and accompanied by a good helping of inelegant but properly sauteed potatoes. Along with a crisp green salad this made for an absolutely superb dinner which, even if not the cheapest in town, makes The Old Hause well worth sniffing out.

I highly recommend you go for the "all inclusive" option when you make a reservation at any hotel. It's less stressfull when it comes to eating, especially because prices are a bit spicy in the local restaurants.

the pub and bar on party street was excellent for breakfasts,the place was very clean,dido the bar manager was great,so too was the waitresses,svete,and teddy and ivan the owner too,going back in may, cant wait.
