It used to be a bath of Roman times but it has been destroyed and later in the 16th century, the local people built the current Turkish bath. The used building materials are of Thracian and Roman fortress. The building that is seen now is about one-third of the Turkish bath, called Hamam. Perhaps there is under floor heating, like the Roman buildings and the floor is near the current, about one meter above the ground.
Location – at the corner of Kamen Tsenov str. And Verenishka str.

I’m sure this place would look much more beautiful when it’s not raining but what can I do – that’s my luck! Anyway it was nice and cook place to take a walk around. Next to the square there is a garden where must be a good place for having a rest while walking in the hottest days.

The first evening of our stay in Montana, our friends took us to a pizza restaurant where the food was incredibly. They also serve salads and many different meals but pizzas are great.
Prices are very reasonable: about 5-7 EUR/per person.

I must have written somewhere around my tips what “banitsa” is, it’s a salty pastry made mainly with cheese. In this bakery they do it with also they can put chicken, spinach, ham etc. But the classic and the most delicious is with cheese. The secret is that they make it with butter.
Visit this place at „3-d of March” street, about 100m from the square with the fountains on the left.

The central market is very close to the square. They sell a lot of vegetables and fruits. But what really impressed me was the flower stands – they had more than 20 of them probably. I was surprised in the beginning but then I realized that this was the time of the proms (at the end of May students graduate high school) and all their friends and family gives them flowers.

Montana’s holiday is the day of St. Spirit. It takes place on different date every year as this holiday depends on Easter. This year (2012) it was on 02.06 and I missed it as I visited it the week before. People say that this is the best time to visit the city as many celebrations are organized. One of them is the International Folklore Festival, that starts the same day.

I small town in the north west part of Stara Planina Mountain, only 33km south of Montana. The city is famous with its mineral water, its moto is: “The town of the health”
There are many family hotels and some more luxury ones that offer SPA and healthy procedures. People visit it to cure themselves or just to relax in the calm small town. There is also a mineral public bath and a wonderful park in the area.
