Visit Cherepishki Monastery
Founded at the time of the last Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Shishman (1371-1393) before Bulgaria fell under Ottoman Yoke. The monastery had been destoyed and burnt out many times. It was rebuilt in the end of the 16th century by Pimen of Sofia. At the time of the Bulgarian Revival Movement the monastery was a school. In 1797 in the monastery was a shelter of Sofronij Vrachanski. In the period 1872-1876 the monastery was visited by members of the Vratsa Revolutionary Committee. Near the monastery is the place Rashov dol where the last battle of Botev´s group led by Georgi Apostolov. The monastery was twice visited by the great Bulgarian poet and writer Ivan Vazov - in 1889 and 1907. The Bulgarian writer and the fonder of tourist movement Aleko Konstantinov organized an excursion in the area of the monastery and wrote travel notes 'Bulgarian Switzerland'.
