This is the central most of the town. At their center is a small fountain and area for parking cars. The square is not very attractively done and the center is not so developed. I saw only few shops, restaurants, bistros, supermarket, and one hotel. Buildings for public use like the town hall, library, museum, are located here but not so obviously...more

After you reach the third Fortress Gate (innermost Gate) which is on the way to the steel staircases you will see at the left side an orange iron lattice laid flat on the ground which is used as cover for a deep hole on the ground. Be careful don´t walk on unmarked areas and don´t step on this. This might collapse and this can be a great danger!...more

This amazing place is situated in Stara Planina Mountain, just next to the city of Vratsa. It is only 5 min far by car but local people go often on foot as it seems to be a pleasant walk, especially in the hot summer. The massive rocks are really impressive and the highest reaches a height of 450m. In the past there used to be a Medieval Fortress...more
I love caves and I’m working on going through as many as I can and up to now I’ve seen a lot of them in Bulgaria. Each one is unique with something and has its own beauty. I’m starting this review like this as I think that Ledenika is one of the most beautiful I’ve been in. Its length is about 300m and has 10 halls. The first one is very close to...more

Montana’s holiday is the day of St. Spirit. It takes place on different date every year as this holiday depends on Easter. This year (2012) it was on 02.06 and I missed it as I visited it the week before. People say that this is the best time to visit the city as many celebrations are organized. One of them is the International Folklore Festival,...more
Dimovo is a small village close to Magura cave, on the main road between Vidin and Belogradchik.
There were no buses to reach Vidin on Sunday, and the train was late in the afternoon. So I hitchhiked and in less than 10 minutes I was on the fast track to Vidin. I insisted to pay a couple of leva before I stepped out of the car one hour later.
There is No Mountain Rescue service in the area!!! Local people are used to the nature and the way they evaluate the risks and injures is different than the western one. We had an accident there. Happily everything finished more-less fine, thanks to the efforts and help of the local Doctor Iordanov and Montana Emergency Medical Service.more
Chiprovtsi waterfall is one of the Nature beauties in the area you shouldn’t miss! There is a comfortable ‘black’ road heading south of Chiprovtsi, which would lead you to a meadow with a spring on it. Good place to rest situated somewhere about the middle of the whole way's length. The same road continues a bit later and then turns into a mountain...more
If you enter Chiprovtsi on the way from Sofia (Vratsa, Montana) one of the first buildings that would attract your attention is the school. Nothing special in its architecture – just a normal school building with a yard and a statue in front. In the past, this was one of the famous carpets weaving professional schools in Bulgaria. Nowadays (since...more
