Brusje is famous for its yellow sand, which is dug from the earth. Sand is vital as a building material, but in very short supply. Now if you go to the biggest building materials stores on the island, such as `Maestral' in Stari Grad, you can only buy `rijecki pjesak', dark grey sand from mainland riverbeds. But the stone on the island is white, and it is nice to use light colours for making mortar. So yellow sand is a real treasure...
Locals have just opened a new hole in the ground.. but I am not telling you where!
