Favorite thing: On main square in Bjelovar is situated great beautiful park surrounded with old buildings and church. In 2004 and 2005 main square won first prize in category "the most beautiful main square in continental part of Croatia", by Croatian national tourist board.

Favorite thing: Every year Croatian national touristic board giving awards to the most beautiful towns and areas on continental part of Croatia ("Green flower") and for towns on coastline ("Blue flower"). In 2005 Bjelovar won two "Green flower" prizes.
The most beautiful town square in continental Croatia is Bjelovar's square. And town of Bjelovar won third place for the most beautiful towns in continental part of Croatia.

Favorite thing: In old documents name "Bjelovar" is first time writing on the beginning of 15th Century. On that time Bjelovar was just property. On middle of 17th century on this land was build small fortress for defense of enemies.
Hundred years later, on middle of 18th century, empress Maria Theresia made order to building a new town, which was build in record time.
Through centuries "Bjelovar" in documents was writing in a few different names - but always that names had similar meaning "White ...".
-- On old postcard below (from 19th century) you can see main square from that time. In center of square is well (well was moved in 1941, but in 1943 on that place was build pavilion), and on the back you can see church of St. Theresia Avilska.
Like in history, also today main symbols of town are pavilion and church in the back.

Favorite thing: What Bjelovar makes unique town in Croatia is its streets. All streets in town center is crossing on 90 degrees, and in center is beautiful main square with park.
The best view is from air from where you can see that Bjelovar is planned made town.

Favorite thing: Bjelovar is one of youngest town in Croatia. In 1756 Austrian empress Maria Theresia made order to building new town for military defense. Town is build planned what can be the best see from air. All street's in center of town are crossing by 90 degrees, what makes Bjelovar unique Croatian town.
In this time town had city walls made it from wood, but now they are gone.
First purpose of buildings was military purpose and there was houses for military officers and soldiers.
