The Baroque parish church of St. Nicholas

The town of Jastrebarsko, often popularly called Jaska, is situated 30-odd km southwest of Zagreb, on the slopes of Plesivica, at an elevation of 154 m. It has a population of 5,400. The town lies along the highway Zagreb-Karlovac, on the regional road and the railway. Chief occupations comprise agriculture, wine growing and wine making, fishing, wood and timber industry and tourism. Jastrebarsko and its surroundings are attractive for excursions, boasting beautiful scenery, nature reserves, cultural and historical monuments, exquisite wines of Jaska wine-makers and delicious specialities.

Zumberak-Samoborsko Gorje landscape

This is a hilly area of the southern inclines of the Zumberacko Gorje, the borderline mountain massif between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia. It is a karst region, with funnel-shaped holes, caves, precipices and subterranean waters, abounding with chestnut and beech forests. Major occupations include agriculture, wine growing and livestock breeding.

Hiking, walking, hunting and angling are major recreation opportunities on Zumberacko Gorje. Very challenging is climbing on Sveta Gera, the highest peak of Zumberacko Gorje (1,178 m). On the top of it there is a pilgrimage church of St. Elias from the 15th century. The patron saint's day is celebrated on the first Sunday after St. Elias' Day (July 20). Since 1994, a pilgrimage-hiking tour from Sosice to Sveta Gera is organized on each last Sunday in January. Not far from Sosice there is a mountain hut on Vodice and in Sekulici there is the "Boris Farkas" mountain lodge.
The Sopot waterfall, near the village of Sopote, is 40 m high, comprising three cascades flowing toward the water mill.

Krasic - Hodocasce

The town of Krasic lies on the lowest slopes of the Zumberacka Gora massif, 19 km west of Jastrebarsko, on the regional road and 8 km south from Kostanjevac. It is well connected with Jastrebarsko and Zagreb. The first mention of that municipal centre dates back to 1249.
Our first association with the region is the Cardinal Blessed Alojzije Stepinac (1898-1960), the departed archbishop of Zagreb, martyr of the communist regime. For that reason, numerous believers and worshippers of the Cardinal visit Krasic. It was Krasic where the Cardinal, born in the nearby village of Brezaric, spent his childhood and celebrated the first mass after his return from studies in Rome. It was Krasic where he spent the last days of his life after the scandalous trial and imprisonment in Lepoglava. The 100th anniversary of the Cardinal's birth was officially marked on May 8, 1998. On that occasion a monument to the Cardinal was placed on the new square in front of the parish church. In the old parsonage of the Holy Trinity Church there are two memorial rooms of Cardinal Stepinac, in which he lived from 1951 to 1960. Every day he used to walk to St. John's chapel, which is also worth seeing. On a hill above the church there is a large crucifix, the starting point of the pilgrim's Way of the Cross.
