Plitvice is one of those rare places that will haunt you with it's beauty. There are miles of very well maintained boardwalk trails; ferries that can shuttle you to the more remote corners of the lakes; and friendly guides and rangers.
Another highlight to visiting Plitvice: although there are hotels (which will cost you!) the more common (and authentic) way to stay in Plitivice, is to stay with a family that lives in the nearby village. There is a booth at the park entrance, with staff that can help to locate a family for you, and will make sure that you know where to go from there. It's rare to have such access to local homes and customs, and personally, that experience was easily equal to the natural, stunning beauty of the landscape.
