Dubrovnik is situated in the most southern part of Croatia, therefore the airplain is the most easiest way to get it. Croatiairlines, the national company, offers a reduced number of cheap tickets on each fly to Dubrovnik which costs around 20,00 Euros. The only problem is, you can buy this tickets exclusevely when in Croatia.
The fly from Zagreb to Dubrovnik takes approx. 45 minutes and in a clear day one can enjoy in fantastic arial view of the Adriatic coast and the islands. I had bad weather conditions during my fly, very cloudy and heavy rain right above the coastal area.

Cilipi Airport is located 22 kilometers outside of Dubrovnik in the village of Cilipi. The airport is small and very easy to navigate with a coffee shop, a small shop in the domestic departure area and a duty free shop in the international departure area. There is also a post office, bank, currency exchange and the Atlas tourist agency as well as a general airport information booth.

Flights within Croatia are fairly cheap especially if purchased from within the country. If you purchase ahead online, you'll pay MUCH more. Also, the earliest flights are often significantly cheaper than the later flights.

To get into town, just jump on the Croatia Airlines bus that leaves every 30 minutes and will be waiting out front. The bus takes around 25 minutes to get to the main bus station in town. As of February of 2004, the cost was 30 kunas each way. A taxi will probably cost more than most flights (around 250kn)!!

Arrivals into Dubrovnik will normally be at the Dunbrovnik Airport a kew kilometres away from the resort of Cavtat. Its presently small and efficiently run. Our transfer time from getting off the plane to collecting our luggage and setting off on our coach transfer was only about 30 minutes - pretty good I thought! The airport is currently expanding its terminal (Oct 2005) to cope with the expected increase in tourism. We enjoyed a lovlely flight following the croatian coastline down all the way from Istrian region.
Tip: the cafes in the arrivals lounge and shops are slightly cheaper than the ones once you have passed passport control.

The Dubrovnik Airport is about 20 minutes south of the city and very small and easy to navigate. Croatia Air is a great little airline that will get you to Zagreb quickly, for a very reasonable fare. It's important to shop around. Travel agencies in any town or city can book your travel. I found that my flight to Zagreb was $40 if I booked a flight at 7:30 am and $100 if I booked the 4:30 flight that same day.

Interestingly, the taxi to the airport cost more than the flight all the way to Zagreb!

  • If your time is limited, you might want to consider flying to Dubrovnik. For non-Europeans, the best place for discount airfares is Europebyair.com. Each flight cost $99, which does not include taxes. There are no penalties for flying one way. To get to Dubrovnik, you will have to change planes in Zagreb. By doing this, you double the price as it will require two flight vouchers. Aer Lingus offers cheap nonstop flights between Dubrovnik and Dublin.

Traveling by plane is a convinient and comfortable way to visit Dubrovnik. Many European companies have regular flights to Zagreb and from there the Croatian national carrier, Croatian Airlines, provides regular flights to Dubrovnik. The airport is called Cilipi airport and it is located about 18 km from the city center.
If you are arriving on a regular flight, there are regular buses departing from the airport to Dubrovnik. Travel time is around 20 minutes. For those preferring to take a taxi to Dubrovnik, there are taxi-cars waiting throughout the entire day (just outside the airport hall). You will probably be offered a price in advance, or you can demand that the price be determined by the taximeter.
When traveling from Dubrovnik, the departures of the regular buses from the main bus terminal are 90 minutes before the estimated takeoff time.

  • I took the plane (croatia airlines). Then take the Atlas bus (it's airco) and fast no stops till the Pile gate. This bus costs 25 Kuna or 3,50 Euro.

In the old city: just walk
Around the city: take the bus from the bus station at the pile gate.

  • The airport of Dubrovnik is located east of the citycentre and there are buses connecting the airport to the main bus station.
There are daily departures from Dubrovnik to the Croatian capital Zagreb operated by Croatia airlines.
I think Austrian Airlines recently started to operate Vienna-Dubrovnik a couple of times a week, in Vienna there are connections to the rest of Europe and many non-european cities.
There are a growing numbers of charter-flights to Dubrovnik in the summer.
