    Lokrum: hide and seek ...

by KristaB Updated Jul 17, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Beaches on Lokrum island are natural flat stone terraces, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, people watching … You can pick your favorite balcony and observe either sea or people, both very interesting. And often there are cruise ships anchored between Lokrum and coastline. Then you are lucky to be on the island, because Dubrovnik is easily overcrowded with hundreds, even thousands of fast walking picture clicking people who leave within couple of hours believing they know Dubrovnik. No, they just touched its polished marble streets. But some of them (those of romantic sensitive constitution are especially vulnerable) get addicted, and want to come back. The town is small, limited within those mighty walls - if you want to enjoy it, come in June or September.
Taxi - boats transfers to Lokrum all day from old city harbor.

    Copacabana Beach

by sandysmith Updated Dec 2, 2005

Favorite thing: OK we were on the further peninsula - Babin Kuk. Also plenty of hotels here - most with beaches nearby. The Copacabana is the largest beach in this complex (and the nearest to our hotel) partly open to the public. It is a long pebble and rocky platform beach with a restaurant and cafe bar. On our day of arricval we wandered down here and just sat in the sun, taking in the views and enjoying a delicious cheap sandwhich from the cafe. I notice there were also bathing facilities for the disabled (pic 2 shows a chair that can be lowered into the water.)

    Small beach, clear sea

Favorite thing: Anything shoreline that is not covered by the sea is called a beach in Dubrovnik. They are small and can get crowded. Our favourite was Copacabana - this photo from a boat ride. Take a bus to the Hotel President and follow the signs-about 15 mins walk.

Favorite thing: BANJE beach is an extremely well located pebble beach with a beautiful wiev to the Old town. It has it's own reception, restaurant, cafe bar, deck chair and sun umbrellas rentals.

Favorite thing: Always wear your bathing suit underneath your regular clothes - you never know when an opportunity to go for a swim in the Adriatic will present itself.
