Best seat in town? What a way to have a rest whilst walking the city wall, just a short , but somewhat scary, walk down from the west facing wall and you are soon relaxing on firm rocks, they have been there for over 600 years, and get the best view in town. It is something you will remember for a long time.

City walls: Walk along the city walls
  • Tip Rating:
  • The older portion of Dubrovnik is enclosed by huge fortified walls that are at least 50 feet tall. One of the things that you must do if you visit Duvbrovnik is the walk along the tops of the walls. It gives you a great view of the city and a good feel for its layout. You can access the tops of the walls by stairs located near the gates into the city.

City walls: Great Views From The Walls
  • Tip Rating:
  • For a nominal fee the city walls in Duvrovnik's Old Town are an unmissable activity. It took my friend and I about 2hrs to leisurely walk around, taking many photographs along the way. Whichever direction you look in the views are fascinating. The adjacent sea, buildings over your shoulder, rolling hills, narrow streets to peer down, and boats in the harbour - superb.

The walls of Dubrovnik are more than 2KM long, so get out your walking shoes! The best bet is to start in the place you want to stop because the whole stretch of wall is worth walking and you don't want to get stuck on the other part of town. Bring sunscreen and a camera, the views are great, and sun is hot up there, sometimes as high as 75 feet from the ground.

City walls: A sea of tiles
  • Tip Rating:
  • This ocean of tiled roofs is a landscape in itself. This landscape is one of the beauties of the old town. It is different following where you are looking from; From the upper road, it is different from what you see from the city wall.

    City walls: The City Walls
  • Tip Rating:
  • Walking the walls is a great way to see the layout of the town with its four monastries and various fortresses to find new perspectives over the tiled roofs of the city and the sea. The entrance to the city walls are situated at the both ends of Stradun, near the Pile Gate and beneath the City Bell Tower. The walls are most imposing and well preserved, having a circumference of just over a mile aan are up to 18 feet thick. The best view is from the highest tower - Minceta - at the northwest corner of the wall.Fortress St. IVAN located at the south part of the city walls, served as the protector of the harbour harbour. Fortress BOKAR at the southwest part of the City Walls served as the protector of Pile Gate, City Bridge and moat at Pile.

Believe it or not people were actually swimming off these rocks below the western wall. It must be a rocky path to the water but what a fabulous place for a swim, the cheapest and cleanest pool in the world, entry included in your walled city entrance fee. Sunbathing on the rocks , watching the luxury boats go by , a cool drink, it could not be better.

After you've entered the fortress city .. you must take the wall trip .. the walls are great and the view it's phenomenal..The walls of the fortress are built exactly on the edge of the rocky peninsula...Those builders were extremely craft and handy...You don't see today buildings from pure natural stone raising from another rocky coast stone. A real beauty this fortress!

A detail seen from the walls. When you walk around them you walk on the level with roofs or even above them. You can either peer down into the streets or look the other way onto the sea. Both ways the views are breathtaking.

City walls: Slippery, Pretty, with a Surprise Entry Fee
  • Tip Rating:
  • First of all, don't be surprised that it costs about 10USD to walk the walls. If you're a student, bring your ID, it's half price. Then, get over the price and do it, and give yourself time. I only had about 45 minutes, and it's not something you want to rush through. Walk around, look around. It's beautiful. That's all there is to it. Once you get to the ocean side of things, there are a couple of bars and little shops to keep you occupied. Follow the signs that say "cold drinks" down to Buza for a cliffside refreshment experience you wont forget. There are also swimming opportunities around the rocks below the old walls, so scope those out while you have a good vantage point so you can return to swim in the shadow of the city of Dubrovnik. Try to do this whole thing before you do other things in the city. You can see things you might have missed if you did it last...like me. And when it slopes, DONT SLIP! Hold on tight, even if it's not wet. And wear sunscreen! It's hotter than you think, and even if there's a breeze, that doesn't mean the sun is any less strong. (Seriously watch out for this. )
