The police have a number of checkpoints to find out your legitimate to be in Croatia. and check for contraband, as well as maybe looking for stolen vehicles-it happens a lot. It looks like they let the goofy looking American tourists go through without hassle, but if you look like a Slave, or have enclosed truck, or on tour bus, likely the stop will be done. It seemed that they took about 20-30 minutes to check those vehicles.

This is a picture of the street where my husband got his first traffic ticket in years – because he went the wrong way down a one way street. To make matters more confusing, it was one way for cars, but buses could go two ways. Signage was very poor – we saw no signs that told us we were entering a one way street if we were driving a car but not a bus.

Not too long after getting this ticket, my husband got another traffic ticket in California. Now, in California, you can get the ticket wiped off your record by going to traffic school but only if you haven’t had another traffic ticket for the past 18 months. As he was filling out his request to attend traffic school I asked him if he was going to mention that little ticket he got in Croatia. He omitted that little detail, and no surprise, was approved for attendance at traffic school. Thankfully, Croatia and California are not yet sharing rap sheets.
