  • Riva-1: On the Opposite side of Otok Korcula

    Riva-1

Riva-1 is an excellent and sophisticated restaurant in the town of Prizba on the southern shore of Otok Korcula. We rolled into this sleepy town and thought that mistakes had been made in the translations on the menu. All was correct and everything we ordered was presented beautifully and was delicious! The family had left Croatia in the 50's and moved to Australia. +40 years later they returned to their home with their Australian raised son, now a chef, to open a restaurant on a peaceful bay. As the restaurant is only open for the summer, the family was going to be busy all winter finishing the new apartments which are situated above the restauant for the summer season of 2004 .

Photo 1 and 2. Konoba Marinero stands in a narrow street, ulica Marka Andijica. We went twice to Konoba Marinero and I will present here the best of our meals and drinks.

Photo 3. Korčula lobster is famous and we had to taste it. It was served with pasta and a yummy sauce.

Photo 4. An assortment of grilled fish, caught in the morning…

Photo 5. Pošip is a white wine, traditionally grown both in Korčula and in Pelješac. It is one of the top and most famous Croatian wines, now widely grown outside of that area. It has been recently established (2002) by genetic analysis that it originated from the island. It is a dry wine of a golden color and a very pleasant aroma.

Photo 1 and 2. Konoba Moski Konjić stands on Zakrjan, the old town’s promenade, on the eastern side of the peninsula. The promenade is also named Setzlište Petra Kanalevića. The tables are pleasantly set along the water with a good view on Pelješac on the other side of the channel.

Photo 3. The restaurant itself is on the other side of the street.

Photo 4. Crni rizot (Risotto with squid black) was a wonder, mellow in the mouth!

Photo 5. Grk white wine is grown only on the island, in the nearby village of Lumbarda

    ADIJO MARE!

by KristaB Updated Feb 7, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The restaurant is situated in a floor level of one old house on a main old-town promenade. They prepare grilled meals in the same room, and that is one amusing performance! Chef is funny grumpy man making jokes and tossing food as if doing some witchcraft.

Hard to get the table after 19.00, so make a reservation. Long wooden tables and benches mean you get to sit and chat with other people.

Favorite Dish: We had some grilled meat and I ordered Pasticada - beef marinated in vinegar, with special spices (cloves, too!), cooked in dark sauce and served with potato dumplings. Mmmm…

Konoba Marco Polo: The best risotto I had in Croatia

    by travelmad478 Written Dec 14, 2003

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Marco Polo had pretty much the same menu as every other restaurant in Croatia--pasta, fish, risotto, grilled meat, salads, and cheese plates. But the shrimp risotto I got at this place was superb--the best plate of food I had in the country.

Bella Vista: Fabulous seafood en route to Korcula

    by travelmad478 Written Dec 14, 2003

Driving from Dubrovnik to Korcula, we passed through the town of Mali Ston (a few miles before you get to the ferry at Orebic). There, we had a phenomenal lunch at a seafood restaurant called Bella Vista. As the name implies, it's high on a hill with a lovely view down to the Ston harbor--see the photo here.

Favorite Dish: My friend and I split the seafood platter, which is advertised as serving two people. Actually, it's more like four! The platter included huge quantities of delicious grilled and fried fish and shellfish, plus French fries and salad. It was amazing.

    Soon Forgotten: Don't imitate us

    Korcula - Croatia
    2 more images

We had lunch in a small restaurant, testing the guide's lesson explaining us that the streets were broken in angles in the sea side, to cut the freezing winds in winter, and straight inland side to allow the flow of refreshing summer breezes.

We were cool, in the esplanade, but the lunch was banal. Nothing to remember nor complaint. However, descending to the walls by the sea, we discovered a long series of restaurants with excellent look, and, competing door to door, they must have a good quality-price ratio. Next time...

    Great food and amazing view

This is the restaurant where I photod the mussels and the spaghetti bolognese. I forgot the name of it but if your walking from Korcula town towards Bon Repos it'll be on the right hand side. It's the only restaurant with an upstairs patio that has a bamboo roof and looks over the water polo pool and sea.

    Spaghetti Bolognese

    yummy!!!

I don't even really like pasta, but since that's about all you get in Croatia besides the awesome seafood, I had to succomb to all sorts of pasta dishes, and I'm glad I did. This is your average spaghetti bolognese dish in the local restaurants. However, there's nothing average about it. It's nothing short of awesomly delicious and I admit I got addicted to spaghetti bolognese!!!

Don't miss the orange and white pizza place.

    The waterfront of Korcula

There is a really good pizza joint in the square with the church that has lions on it's doors. Their sign in all over the island, it's orange and white I think. I suggest getting take-out and taking your pie to the waterfront where you can sit on a bench or the wall and watch the sunset or the ships go by on their way up and down Croatia's coast.

    Planjak: Try the Octopus

In this very popular restaurant with visitors and locals, I found a very good service. They serve grilled food and various beer and wines.
Due to its location in the centre of the old town, this restaurant is the ideal place to eat for a good quality and price.
It is easier to find a free table at night!

    Local cuisine

The Adriatic coast is renowned for the variety of seafood dishes, including scampi, prstaci (shellfish) and brodet (mixed fish stewed with rice) all cooked in olive oil and served with vegetables. In the interior visitors should sample manistra od bobica (beans and fresh maize soup).
    The regional wines are good
