As it says in the title, a quiet afternoon walk along the Neretva, a river I've grown to like over the last couple of years. A stop for a beer at the friendly Konoba Lanterna along the way.
A late afternoon stop here for us, just over the road from the river, a comfortable terrace on a warm afternoon.
All of the local favourites on the menu, a really tasty pljeskavica with fries for me and a Mrs B happy with her veggie pizza, lovely fresh bread and ajvar a special treat too.
Friendly and comfortable, enjoyed our visit here.
Arrived into and departed from Metkovic by bus, trains were an option but times not really appealing to us.
Into town from Mostar, a lovely journey mostly along the banks of the Neretva and once again with Globtour - comfortable buses. Onwards to Dubrovnik with a smaller local company in a minibus - equally comfortable and easy and border crossings pretty relaxed.
Photo of Metkovic bus station borrowed, sorry!
It is an amateur sports competition in the race of traditional boat in the Neretva valley.
The ships have to be traditional shapes and sizes according to the prescribed rules included a number and dimensions of the ribs and hull ships must be made of wood with a specific thickness of the boards. In every ship of that ten rowers, a drummer and a helmsman.
It is held annually on the second Saturday in August. Start is below Lučki bridge in Metković and finish is in Ploče.
This year it was on Aug. 10th - at 5p.m.(16th competition). Pirates from Komin won the first place: a big transition Domagoj shield and a small shield in permanent ownership.
