The coastal resorts north of Dubrovnik are just as lovely as some in the southern part of Dalmatia. They are gradually being re-developed after war damage. Quiet resorts (for now) popular with families...but Ii wonder how long these unknown tranquil resorts will last until tourism takes over - to give credit to the tourist board they are trying to control this factor so its not spoilt...but you can see from this picture how nice it looks...

We drove quite a distance along the northern coastline on our way to Mostar - some of the bays here are ideal for mussel farms and lobster farming - thats what all those coloured blobs are for, indicating nets and farms.

I highly recommend you do NOT stay in hotels or even hostels while in Croatia. Instead, stay in peoples' homes. At any bus station, as buses arrive, locals with rooms to rent will stand around shouting "Sobe sobe!" (pronounced "so bay") if they have rooms to rent. Make sure to play them off of one another, and ask how close they are to where you want to be. Also be sure to ask how many beds they have, as they may put several people in your room (like it or not).
