Vela Luka Travel Guide

Pretty much the only tourist attraction anyone mentions for this town is the Vela Spilje cave, which is located high above the city on a hillside. If you decide to go there, DRIVE, like we did. We followed the signs from the center of town, which were highly misleading--while they advertised the distance as an easily walkable 1 km or so, it was actually much farther. The drive can be a little harrowing, as it is up a steep cliffside road that gradually loses a lot of its width and paving, but it's a lot better than walking.

By the time you finally make it up to this cave, you're hoping for something spectacular, but unfortunately it isn't too much to see...a big, empty cave. The views over the town from the high vantage point are nice, though.

All along the walkway around Vela Luka's harbor, there are restaurants and cafes. We had ice cream at one, coffee at another, beer at a third, and dinner at a place called Pod Bore. The food at Pod Bore wasn't much to write home about, but it didn't kill us.

Scuba Diving....oh my god more like death diving!

I am a open water diver but got my license in Thailand. I went to Posiejdon dive centre owned by Bobby and his wife...I had an excrutiating time with them. They were a rip off, the accomodation was bloody awful.. had to share a pull out sofa with my girlfriend..The boat was over crowded and be warned if you do go diving with them make sure you bring your own snacks for the boat. They charge you 8 euro for a "so called bbq" horrible!! and the worst is that they don't tell you that your booked in for the food..RIP OFF!!! I'd recommend not to go diving here....

Equipment: Just don't go diving here. Go to another island like Brac....lovely little place called BOL....
