bus to Supetar

There are several buses a day from Bol to Supetar. The bus stop is at the beginning of the harbour, where you can also find a small tourist office. There is a ticket window where you can also see the timetable.

You have two route options. We took the one that is slightly longer with just over an hour via Pucisca because that departure time was more convenient for us. The ticket price in September 2008 was 35 kuna. You have to put your lugguage yourself in the belly of the bus at no extra cost.

I recommend you sit on the right side in the direction of travelling and have your camera ready (unlike me as I didn't know at the time). Because when the bus climbs uphill you can look backwards and get a great view over Bol.

If you are prone to motion sickness, don't forget to bring some spearmint chewing gum with you as the roads are very windy.

catamaran at Bol landing

In September 2008 there was a catamaran at 4 pm from Split directly to Bol for 22 kuna. The journey takes about an hour and there is a bar on board as well as toilets. The catamaran continues to the next island.

If you want to use the catamaran back to Split then you will have to get up very early as it leaves around 6 am depending on the weekday. This service is made for the working people and not for the tourists, therefore it has rather inconvenient times for tourists.

toy train to Golden Beach

In Bol you will find a tourist toy train which takes you to the Golden Beach (Zlatni Rat) via the back road. We saw it several times, the speed is quite fast but we walked there along the pedestrian promenade.

In the center of Bol it leaves from next to the bus station by the harbour.

Getting directly to Bol from Hvar town was not not so easy, in that we took this quite spontaneously, they were certainly not been at the time some form of public transport. So we rented a speed boat with a driver, who drove us to the Bol. We had this boat, available all day and could come and pick us up when we wanted.

It cost less than 2000 kuna!

The easiest and cheapest way to get to Bol is by the 16:00 catermeran from Split which is only $4 but you must book your tickets in advance in summer as they all sell out. Coming from bol the catermrean leaves at 6:30 in the morning. The only other way is by ferry and bus which takes 3 hours. If you miss the last bus from Supetar 17:50 a taxi will set you back $66 for the 40 minute journey

Ferries from Split and Makarska

You can get to Bol with ferrie from Split to Supetar or from Makarska to Sumatrin. But be aware of that in season it can be very crowdy there, so you must come earlier to seaport to get on a ferrie you wish. We waited 4 hours for our ferrie from Sumatrin to Makarska, because there are only 5 ferries/day. And each of them can only takes about 20 cars and one truck. It's really a big mess.

The international airport "Brac" is only 13 kilometres from Bol, and connects it with the most popular tourist destinations all over Europe. There is a ferryboat to Split from Supetar and speedboats directly from Bol to Split and to Italy.
