Don't waste your time, we read fabulous reviews on loads of travel mags, but have a feeling they writers were paid off, this place is awful, looks good, but staff rude and food far too overpriced. I was thoroughly disappointed!!
Favorite Dish: none!!

The ambience is nice but the food is not worth the price. You get better quality for half of the price in many restaurants in Hvar.
Service does not react on complains. It looks like they became arrogant because of quite positive reviews in some US media.
Favorite Dish: Don't try the grilled octopus. Burned on the outside and raw inside.

Located in a narrow side street of Hvar town center. We were recommended Macondo by the locals as one of the finest places to eat out in Hvar, but were quite dissapointed to find out that it was overpriced and its tasteless food was even worse than in any average place we could find out there. Avoid it, for the same price you can have a proper meal somewhere else.

In addition to Menego, Macondo is my favourite restaurant in Hvar town and one of my top favourites in Dalmatia.
Located on the same street as Menego, its more expensive than Menego and a bit more "polished". However, the atmosphere is still cosy. Service is friendly, both in English and in Croatian ;) You can sit either inide or on the narrow street surrounded by stone houses.
The food is excellent, though a bit pricy. We paid a bit over 400 kunas for two starters, two main courses and a desert. (2007)
Favorite Dish: Cheese is an excellent starter. Their tiramisu is the best I have ever tried.

Minimalist design, outdoors eating, friendly and helpful waiters, fantastic fresh food. Has been reviewed for the New York Post, and curiously, Playboy magazine. This is a must for anyone visiting Hvar. I'm not going to have food like this for years to come. Also, the loos are divided into "Napoleons" and "Josephines".
Favorite Dish: Seafood risotto, and my friends said that the tiramisu was paradise on a plate. Er, they do good chips too.

Situated about a block off the main square and near Hektorovica's unfinished house - this is one of the more upscale restaurants. The food quality is excellent. I did the chef's recommendations - hvar sampler plate of fish pate-octopus salad- marinated anchovies, fruta di mare risotto, fish fillet w/roasted vegetables. Ordered a bottle of white - Bodanjusa. For desert - a couple slices of fresh succulent watermelon. Try and get a table outside along the walkway - the lights swaying in the breeze, people passing by - makes for a wonderful setting. Finished with some homemade prosec - which was a deep ruby red. I had my last dinner here - lobster spaghetti (140 kn), other white fish (120 kn), grilled vegetable (25 kn) a 1/2 liter of house white (30 kn) - once again a beautiful peaceful setting - late at night I had the walkway to myself.
