The most impressive buoilding in Hvar is definitely this cathedral. Standing on the eastern side of the square it realy dominates it. It was built in stages during the 16th and 17th centuries, while the interior was not wholly completed until the 18th century. It has the characteristics of a Renaissance-baroque style.
Dominating a large square (maybe the biggest in Croatia) with a strong venetian look, this church comes from the 16th century, and it is the most remarkable building in town, noticeable immediately from the boat. Built in location of a 6th century chapel, it contains elements from the 14th to the 17th century.
Hvar- s famous main square was built 1575 by the Venetian and is known as the largest and most beautiful of whole Dalmatia. Old facades, the church San Marco, the old bell tower, the Stephans Cathedral and the ruins of the gorgeous old Gothic Palace surround it.
