Cultivation of lavender and production of lavender oil is an old tradition and important part of local economy.
While walking through Sveta Nedjelja village strong smell of lavender oil tickled my nostrils. I followed that wonderful scent and found one old stone building. There was a truck in front of it, and men were unloading bags of lavender.
I said "Hello, how are you?", smiled and asked if I could take a look inside, and they were very kind and showed me around and explained the process of extracting lavender oil.
Pitve tunnel - very interesting experience.
Especially if you are coming for the first time, and you are passing through with a tickle in your spine.
I have that great expectation feeling every time I'm coming back to Zavala.
Then the bright white light on te other side becomes larger and larger and suddenly the magnificent view of the sea and islands explodes in front of your eyes!
There used to be additional excitement with this ride before they installed semaphores. So no more thrills of peaking into the tunnel and staring through the darkness to see if anyone is approaching and then driving fast but not fast enough ... but there are 3 places wide enough for 2 cars to bypass.
Pitve Tunnel length: 1,4 km
Max width of vehicle: 2,3 m

You can hear them calling out loud from their boats:
(Fish is here)
This means they caught a load too large to be sold to local restaurants. They probably caught some large fish.
So everyone starts running towards Zavala port, those slobbering with ideas about the fabulous meal, and those dragging their curiosity under the hot sun.
If you have a good landlord at the place you are staying, he will take care of cooking that fish for you, proudly sharing his “secrets” about best grill-wood and spices for that perfect dish.
