Fondest memory: Listening to live Klapa singers. These wonderful harmony groups which sometimes sing with the addition of an instrument or two such as guitar. I find this music emotional and beautiful, it can make you cry or make the hairs stand up on your arms. "It is as if this sound emerged from the very bowels of the Earth, only to rise up and reveal the heavens. These mystical voices need neither instruments nor written music " Quoted from the following web site, very succinctly put.
If you would like to listen to clips try this web site http://www.croatianworld.net/CROWNframes.htm?http://www.croatianworld.net/Letters/5400.htmwhich which also has a lot of general information about Croatia and http://www.makarska-croatia.com/audio/index.html for more music clips.
We sadly did not stumble across some spontaneous singers which we were hoping for but were lucky in finding a group of singers in the square in Makarska - a marvellous setting and incredible singers. Pure enjoyment.

Favorite thing: You already know the place Makarska. Biokovo is this huge mountain behind. If you are a passionate hiker, you can climb up but please, make sure you know HOW to do that and that you know your way! The best way would be to go with some local guide or with someone really familiar with the route.

No, we didn't go to Makarska. We were supposed to sleep there, but a small change in the program made us sleep in Split. But we did follow the coast, which seems to be the highlight of the area.
