Jadro river (4): Memorial park on Sirina
Favorite thing: The last urban park along Jadro river is the one in Sirina, at the southern entrance to central Solin. You’ll easily recognize this spot by huge poplar trees that form the welcome image as you approach solin by the highway from Split.
Above the river there’s a small bridge that’s also a monument to soldiers from Solin who lost their lives in the WWII. Large plate – like structure is made out of letters writing the names of the killed soldiers. And Jadro slowly passes by …
Jadro river (3): Swans & Other birds
Favorite thing: In central area of Solin river Jadro splits into several flows. There are several waterfalls as well, and upstream of the biggest of them there’s a small lake-like part of the river. The birds colony was recently introduced as part of the landscape project in central Solin. There are pavillions and shelters for swans, ducks and other birds.
The area is always a magnet for local children, and the scenery has become rather popular amongs the pairs who are making long queue lists in order to have their wedding ceremony in Solin church or Town hall and later have a photograph in front of the big pavillion.
Jadro river (2): Dvorine
Favorite thing: Southwards from the Hollow Church and Ljubinci there’s a small sandy island called Dvorine. It is famous “beach” of children from Solin who are searching the refreshment in the shallow waters of Jadro during the summer.
Dvorine is still under vineyards and orchards owned by people that live in nearby houses. It is also one of the most interesting sites for the archaeologists who believe that excavations would reveal the court of the early Croatian kings, who were obviously corronated in the nearby Hollow Church. There are some scriptures that mention this, and the name of the island itself is intriguing (Court in Croatian is Dvor – hence the name Dvorine). The placement of such a court on a river island would also be according to the customs of the times.
Untill the site is more researched you are free to enjoy in beautiful landscapes along the river Jadro.
Jadro river (1): Ljubinci
Favorite thing: If you’re a lover of nature, then you’ll certainly find something for you in Solin. Especially in areas around the Jadro river. It is the river that makes Solin so different from the towns around. Although it has its part of the sea, this is blocked by industrial facilities so the river gives the main accent to Solin’s urban identity. Only ten kilometers from Riva in Split and few kilometers from similar rivas in Kastela, Solin offers you different kind of landscape.
Upper part of Jadro river is characterized by its slow flow still in one unique stream, until it splits into several branches making an interesting array of river islands in the center of Solin.
If you happen to go searching for the Hollow Church don’t miss the opportunity to walk around the river shores in Ljubinci. There’s also a small pedestrian bridge in case you want to cross to the other side.
