Parking in Split
Favorite thing: Hi there.
There is parking available at the Riva. If you follow signs to the ferry port you will see the barrier for it to the right of the Jadrolinija ticket office, just near the market and Diocletian's Palace. Just take a ticket and pay when you leave. It is not a secure parking area, just an open air parking area, but as the previous answer mentions, Split is a relatively safe place. I have parked there overnight many times and have never had a problem. Just be sensible and don't leave valuables in the car or belongings in sight. Have a good trip.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I have a house on the nearby island of Brac and am in Split quite a bit. In fact, just got back from there yesterday! PS If you're looking for a good English breakfast, I highly recommend the Black Cat!
Favorite thing: Closer look at Riva and the old core of the town where dominate the world famous Diocletian's Palace, a part of UNESCO's World heritage.
Fondest memory: In the central part of the picture dominates the Diocletian's Palace and the Cathedral of St. Doimus.

Favorite thing: If you wish to see and feel the Mediterranean at its best, all you have to do is visit it and it wiil become clear to you why the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea is often called the jewel of the Mediterranean.
Fondest memory: When visiting Split take a walk along its Riva , if day or night it does not metter, just walk through the crowd and feel the scent of Mediterranean madness. The locals are very proud of Riva, considering it the most beautiful in whole the world, but aren't we all exaggerating when goes for our hometowns!

Favorite thing: When you're tired of exploring the narrow streets of old town, come to the riva, on the Obala Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda, and sit down in one of the many cafes along the street. This place is specially great in warmer months when you can sit outside, sunbathe, observe people passing by and enjoying your coffee.
Althoug there are many cafes right eachother it happend that we had problems finding a free table.

watch the pretties walk by
Fondest memory: Sitting on the elegant promenade watching the beautiful people walk by: this is what life is about, and Croatians are probably among the happier and warmer Slavic people because of this good weather and mediterranean lifestyle. The old hotels serve slightly pricier but affordable coffee meals in a really elegant setting. Eat this, Monte Carlo! This is the real thing. The coffee is excellent, on par with Italian delights.

I didn't know they had palms in Croatia
Favorite thing: I went there in the spring and it was still a bit chilly, but I loved the place. It looks like its summer but as you can see, we dress for the occation.
The person on the pic is one of my fellow humanitarian workers who lived in Split.
Favorite thing: This is Split's riva. Favourite gathering place for locals. During the day just passing spot, walking area, but at night in summer it becomes busiest area in town. Guys are showing off with their motorbikes, girls are showing off with their ... well ... best looks and charm.
Groups of elderly women or men (they hardly ever mix) are sitting around the benches and actively chatting with the language only they understand (mix of croatian, italian, and special Dalmatian version of croatian - language I could never understand). They also talk at the same time sometimes where nobody is listening and everyone is talking - funny stuff!
Entire place is packed with action and fun.
