The old core of Split is a network of short and narrow streets, very typical for all Mediterranean city structures raised in the medieval times. It is attractive for most of the tourists especially if Anericans or north Europeans. Such a streets could be extremelly charming in particularly if loaded with the small shops and cafe bars, but also, less charming if rush hour because locals could be very nervous.
The complex of neo-Reinaissance structures, called Prokurative, is situated next to the riva. It is one of the biggest open space in the old core of the town and today it hostes concerts and the music festivals. Prokurative had always very important role in the social life of Split, besides, many significant political events have took place here.
The complex look colourfull and very harmonious.
HNK means Hrvatsko Narodno Kazaliste, or Croatian National Theatre. Don,t miss it when visiting Split. It has long tradition and very important role in the social life of the locals. Besides drama, it is well known for its opera and especially operettas. But I suggest you to follow the drama if any possible, there are lots of very talented actors in Split. Some among the best Croatian actors originally coming from Split or its surroundings.
The theatre is situated approx. 5 minutes walking from the riva of Split in the direction of north.
Local people adore stylish kind of life, to see and to be seen, to spend more money then they really can afford it, especially if on cloths and food. Split is typical Mediterranean town and local people spend much more time outdoors then indoors, no matter if summer of winter.
If trendy place, cafe-bar, restaurant or club, the whole of Split will be there or around there. ACI Marine used to be very popular place, espacially after mid of nineties. Everybody wanted to have espresso right here, or spending day on the terrace in sipping drinks and watching who is coming or going out with the boat. Too bad if you don't understand Croat language because you missing alot in listening very juicy comments. Local people have great sense for humour but also could be very sarcastic with the comments.
Welcome to the Split
