this is not one of the beach resorts or mega hotels that you see out side split. you dont see many tourists there. clear (and very cold) water, sandy beach in one part and concrete woterfront with ladders in the other part (give you the bizarre feeling of a strange swimming pool in the sea...) the water are very shalow in the beginning and get deep after the platform, where you see groups of teenagers trying to impress the girls by jumping and diving and flipping into the water.very very clean water and beach even when its full. a good place to relax.there is a sitting area with some grass (and a bar makes great coffee) and on youre way out buy an icecream cone.
If you want to enjoy the spectacle of grown men crashing and splashing dangerously about in the shallow waters of Split's only central beach, then head down to Bacvice to enjoy a game of Picigin. The locals are very good at this game, and it's an ancient tradition dating back centuries. It basically involves keeping a small rubber ball in the air as long as possible, and they will go to great, sometimes daring, lengths. I read there was a New Year's Eve version of this game for the very brave.
You could even go in the waters yourself. It stays shallow for about a 100m out.
Bavice beach another beach by Marjan hill
Bavice beach is where most people come to tan and swim. It is rather shallow but long and spread out. The other beach shown here is near the Mestrovic complex on Setalis Ivan Mestrovica, the main boulevard along the water edge. It has some really nice beach areas and a couple of piers to go out a way, and I would prefer it over Bavice There are about 5 other places said where swimming can take place to the east of Bavice for the next 3-4 miles.

Bacvice Beach is a central city beach, situated few minutes' walk south past the railway station. Its sandy and sort of has an old fashioned feel with its old concrete seawall . You can rent umbrellas and chairs for $10.00 for the day. The shady spots near the wall go fast.. It is so refreshing when the temperatures climb as they did when we were there in June . Lifeguards on duty and snack bars.( selling “American” hotdogs)
- Budget Travel
Bacvice beach is only few hundred meters from ferry harbour, so it is no problem for you to get there.
Bacvice is one of most popular beaches in Split and one of the only sand beaches, which might also be the reason why it is always very crowded.
Anyway if you are only in Split one day I would absolute recommend you to go there, Split of course has other beaches, but they would be bit harder to reach for you on foot.

Bacvice Beach and surroundings
Bacvice Beach is the closest beach to the centre of Split.
This small sandy beach is located in the Bacvice area of the city, a 10-15 minutes walk from Split's promenade, the bus and train stations and the ferry terminal.
As well as the small crescent of sand, there is also a large concrete area which is popular with sunbathers and swimmers. While the beach itself is not spectacular, the sea is a lovely turquoise colour and very clean.
The beach is backed by lots of greenery and cafes and restaurants nestled in between the trees and gardens.
Slightly beyond the beach is the Bacvice complex. During the day time this consists of relaxing seaside cafes, restaurants and ice cream parlours. There is also a childrens play area including go karts, trampolines and bouncy castles. By night, the cafes become more lively and a handful of loud bars and discos open up.
Further along the coast you can enjoy a pleasant seaside stroll along the quiet paths or leave your clothes on some of the many rocks and enjoy a dip in the warm sea.
The beaches in Split
All around the city there are little harbours and beaches. Five minutes walk from the ferry port, practically round the corner, there is a famous sand beach called Bacvice. Other beaches, Znjan is one of them, are usually with pebbles and rocks.
Let's face it!Split is not known for its beaches, but if you live in Australia it shouldn't bother you coz you have great beaches at home .Bacvice is the best known Split beach and I believe it is a decent looking one too. There is some sand and some concrete, a few good restaurants and snack bar type of places. This photo of my friend brankica was taken from the terrace of one of the restaurants, overlooking bacvice beach. It had a great views and as I remember Octopus salad was yummy.
Bacvice the main beach for...
Bacvice the main beach for Split.
Pleasant concrete and sandy beach. Several bars around too. Look out for an odd ball game played in the sea, a little like volleyball with no net. I think it's called 'picigin' but language difficulties you know! a kind lady tried to explain, but!!!!!.
Also watch the ferries in and out of port, very busy.
