Relaxing and authentic destinations
For a lazy & economical break I'd recommend one of the less popular islands where prices are lower and there are no crowds - islands in front of Zadar such as Dugi Otok (Long island), which is still peaceful and full of interesting areas to explore. This island is great if you enjoy hiking. YOu can use local bus or hitchike to get to different areas of the island. On the nort-western tip of Dugi otok there's one of my favourite beaches - Saharun, no crowds there since there's no villlage and you have to hike or take a boat to reach it. But it's worth the effort! Just bring enough water with you. On the most southern end of the island there's Telascica bay national park with an interesting lake + stunning vertical cliffs towards south, with views of Kornati islands. You can reach Zadar or Split by plane, then take a bus and Jadrolinija ferry to Dugi otok.More on my Dugi otok pageAnother...
