Every year on Palm Sunday (Sunday before Easter) Imotski becomes for that day Jerusalem in the time of Jesus. The Calvary is played by local people (amateur actors) and one professional actor that plays Jesus.Everything starts in the garden near the Franciscan church and then it goes trough the town and several locations until they come to the fortress Topana which is for that day "Golgotha" where Jesus was crucified. It is a great experience and it is worth to see.
Šijavica is a game that is played by adult man in Imotski region, Hercegovina and other rural parts of Dalmatia. It may look for you as uncontrolled hitting on the table with hands but everything has sense. The game is played this way: two players show number of fingers with their right hand and jell a number. If the addition of fingers shown by both players is the same as the number one of the players yelled point goes to that player,if they both miss or both guess the score nobody gets the point. With the left hand they count their points. Most of the players don't speak Italian language but all numbers that they yell are yelled on Italian. It is a great fast game played by Croatians in Italian language.
Ganga is a type of singing from rural Croatia,Imotski county and Herzegovina. It is characterized by a lone singer singing one line of lyrics and then others joining in for what can be best described as a wail. It is a very passionate form of singing, which is one of the reasons it has been limited in popularity to small towns.Although both men and women regularly perform ganga, it is extremely unusual for them to perform songs together.
