    Byzantine castrum

The continuity of human habitation on these islands can be followed from prehistoric times. On thecape of Ploce on Big Brijun island remnants of a dugout settlement from the earlier Stone Age have been discovered. There are also ruins of Illyrian hill-fort settlements found at locations of Gradina, Antunovac, Kosir and Ciprovac.

    Deer at Brioni

    hehe...
Brioni is a National Park, and any kind of hunting, fishing.... and wrecking/disturbing of the flora and fauna is absolutely prohibited!!!
I am not exactly sure what they do to you if you attempt to do any harm, but I am pretty sure it won't be enjoyable....

So, leave the animals alone and don't pick any flowers or leafs.

And yes, smoking is not allowed on the premises of the reserve. You can of couse have a smoke once you go off by yourself, but please watch where you put your butt out!!

The archaeological complex of the Byzantine castrum from the antiquity to the 14th century, is located next to Dobrika bay. Castrum walls are up to 6m high and close to 3m wide. There are also ruins of stone presses for grapes and olive refining.

    Bizantijski castrum

According to its size, the castrum was big and important settlement at that time. Besides the remnants of the temple and military buildings, there are also remnants of the workshops, market and and residental quarters.

This is probably the best preserved part of the settlement made of solid and firm Istrian stone. I realy don't know what it was but looks like a residental noble house. The round construction could have been backery or some sort of furnace.
