    the old mulberry-tree

The is an old mulberry-tree in the courtyard of the hotel Kaštel, worth of seeing. The tree is several hundreds of years old and still fruitful. Since it is very bifurcated, it trunk had to be bandaged with the still ropes.

    Beware !

Nowadays, "beware school" road signs are somehow standardized and not very different from one country to the other. I collect pictures of these signs and look especially for the older ones that has been forgotten and not removed. This one was still in lower Motovun in October 2004. It looks more like a prison warning sign that a school sign !

    Workshop

by JLBG Written Dec 5, 2004

Ìn the old town of Motovun, I spotted this workshop where 20-30 women were sewing. I have not found any sign that gave the name of the workshop or of the company and that said what they were doing. I took this picture across the window and fortunately it is not too bad. Next time I go to Motovun, I will try to know more on that workshop.

  • So how do you get there?

It is not easy getting here actually. But even the ride to Motovun should be part of experience...Last time I was in the town, my friends took me here from Porec - 30km distance. It was evening and it was dark. Road was the worst one I have ever seen in my life. Also there were no lights anywhere and no traffic. Then after an hour of a kind of scary ride Motovun appeared like out of nowhere on the hill looking like an ancient castle and I was amazed by the way this pretty town looked like and where it was hidden.

Motovun is soooo off the beaten path, but a must see! So take your time, wherever you are in Istra, and take a ride to Motovun. The closest seaside town to Motovun is POREC which is about 20km away.
You have to come here by car and most times park at the bottom of the hill (on which the town is located) and walk up. The walk is about 2km, so it's not bad....unless is very hot...

You may end up finding amazing spots like these, flower meadows & great places to rest & relax. :)

On the photo you can see a wooden cottage with Motovun in the background... :)

    Umag beach

We went to Umag before we went home, just visited some friends & took a swim. Every coastal city is pretty close, so take some time & go off the beaten path! :)
